After much reading of forums, I've settled on the following kit for my planned 'conroe' build. Have I missed any obvious problems? Any comments welcome
Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-137-IN)
Clocks well, significantly cheaper than the 6600 but a higher multi than the 6300
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-152-AS)
Considered the DS4 but it looks to me to have to many potential issues. e.g. Memory, IRQ issues possibly leading to other probs? P5WDH likely to support more future CPUs
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
Cheap, good. Nuff said?
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR)
Not as efficient as some of the massive towers, but good. This or the Zalman CNPS9500-AT
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
Best bang for buck?
Then some AS5, Seagate HD and Pioneer DVDRW.
I'm hoping to get the E6400 to at least 3GHz, ideally 3.2GHz (400MHz*8). Then run the likes of Oblivion and never drop below 30fps @ 1280x1024 full settings.
Total price - scary
