Hi all,

I am about to buy, this is what I have planned at the moment :

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor & Corsair H100i CPU Cooler Bundle £340.00
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-00-40G) £329.99
Asus Z97-Pro Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £142.99
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2A2133C11R) £139.99
Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £109.99
TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter (TL-WDN4800) £26.99

I already have an 850w platinum psu form corsair, & a haf x case, monitor, k/b & mouse. I'll be getting a storage hd & a copy of windows 8.1 too.

This is for gaming (Eve &, with this, Skyrim & other online games, not a great deal of first person shooters though, so I imagine the graphics card is overkill).

I've chosen the mb as I've read the asus bios is nicer than the gigabyte one, & I've never overclocked before ... I'm only looking for a modest overclock, to 4.5. I'm in Spain, high room temperature & humidity is a worry.

I'm entirely restricted to wifi, hence the wifi card.

My current pc is an intel 2.13 dual core with an nvidia gforce 8600 GT gpu, no ssd & running win XP ... so I imagine the new one will fly by comparison :)

Is there anything obviously or arguably dumb in this build?

An i5-4690K and 8GB RAM is fine for gaming.

You can get the WiFi version of the motherboard for just £7 more than the other.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £189.95
1 x Asus Z97 Pro Wifi-AC Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £149.99
1 x Asus Z97-Pro Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £142.99
Total : £492.53 (includes shipping : £8.00).

And this RAM would look nicer on the Asus mobo:

Why 16GB? 8GB is more than enough for gaming and should last for a decent time. Money saved can be put elsewhere :)
