Planning a new AMD/Ampere gaming build and need case advice please. :)

Hi guys,

Well, after countless (ok, maybe 5 or 6 in total) hours of reading I have now decided that the Fractal Meshify C or S2 look ideal to give me a nice case going forward. The S2 is bigger but better featured and has USB-C at the front.

I will be running:

  • AMD 3700x w. Noctua NH-D15
  • AMD B550
  • 1x NVME and maybe also 1x SATA SSD
  • Nvidia 3080 Ti (so 270mm or so)

My question now is... is the S2 possibly too big if I am going to only be using air cooling and not an AIO? Or is the extra length just going to having the benefit of making it ewasier to build inside and give more airflow to hotter future components?

With M-ATX you may as well go ATX, because the cases are not any smaller, unless you buy a Sliger Cerberus.

Thanks matt, I was assuming this may be the situation based on the research I had done.

The Cooler Master HAF XB seems pretty compact with a very convenient layout, is it recommended on this forum? My only concerns are if the front connectivity can be upgraded with USB-C and an SD card slot. The latest one seems pretty similar to the legacy model in terms of connectivity https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/lan-box/haf-xb/

Do they even sell that anymore? The Node 804 is my best effort, came close to buying one once upon a time. Perhaps the corsair cube cases? No idea what they were called. Edit: That G3 looks alright actually.

Hmm the Corsair Carbide Airflow 540 looks decent... https://www.corsair.com/de/en/Categ...-ATX-Cube-Case/p/CC-9011030-WW#tab-tech-specs

Shame they don't update them more often though to take advantage of new connectivity standards. Still, I can add a front 3.5" bay with USB-C and SD etc.
 
Higuys I have been doing a lot of research and it seems liek the Fractal Design 7 is a great midi tower with pretty much evry feature on most wish lists https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/define/define-7/black/
  • Has a lot of airflow options and takes 140mm fans
  • Has sound-proofing
  • Space for largest GPU's
  • Space for 360mm radiators with a tray and will fit the Arctic Freezer II
  • Fan dust filters on all sides
  • Big PSU cage and tray with rear entry
  • Has USB-C
The door can be removd or opened to increse airflow further. Any reason why I shouldn't choose this case? The price is fine for me. :)

You don't need the S2 if air cooling, the Meshify C will take large air coolers without issue

I have a dark Rock Pro 4 in mine

There is a limit on how long the GPU can be but it still fits long GPUs just double check it before you go fitting the world's largest GPU
 
Thanks Relentness. I actually yesterday ordered a Be Quiet Pure Base 500 in gunmetal gray as it seems to tick a lot of boxes and I am not overclocking so don't need the worlds best airflow an want a good balance of practicality and quietness. Hopefully now I can lay this to rest as choosing a case was the most painful thing of all components I can think of. :)
