Planning my Big Upgrade... Advice needed!

Hello all.

I think its about time I jumped the DDR3 bandwagon BUT that requires me to do a partial system overhaul!

I need:

A new nForce790i based mobo. (eVGA will do).
Overclockable, not too expensive DDR3 memory.

Don't need:

CPU; My E6600 will do for now.
GPU; Not worth going from 8800Ultra to 9800GX2. Not paying £400 for 5-10FPS+!

What do you think? Thanks.

Is there any particular reason why you want to go for DDR3? I might be wrong but I somehow doubt that you'll get much extra performance out of your system from the change, especially not given the price.

DDR2 will be obsolete soon. DDR3 is the future. Plus I want nforce790i which requires DDR3 memory.

i'd wait til ddr2 was close to being obsolete, and the ddr3 prices reasonable before you joined the bandwagon tbh.

ddr2 is hardly obsolete. plenty of people still use it including my self. i doubt you would see much performance difference unless you were running apps that need a vast amount of fast ram like encoding or maybe running a server

Maybe you guys are right. Ive got a terrible habit of wanting the best lol. I wanna start being more responsible with my money. I think ill leave it for now and invest in a new case instead.

One more question... Do the wolfdales overclock ok on the 680i? Thanks.
