AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz Retail / Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe / 2GB Corsair XMS2-6400C4 TwinX Dual Channel Kit - Bundle or buy separate and go for the 5000+ black edition and up the multi to 15 giving me 3 ghz

or

Asus GeForce 8800 GTS HTDP 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

what i'm looking for is to be pretty nifty within the O/S and gaming well the best i can get really as on a budget i only ever use approx 2xaa and about as much AF as i can get so i'm not looking to max aa or af i just want most games to look sweet lol

don't worry i'm not going to try and max out crysis ;)

you might be better off saving your money then buying it all in one go.

like you plan to do, i built my pc in stages and found that better parts were released before i had everything for the pc. i also found that prices fell as time went on thus making it cheaper if i had brought it in one go. you also save on delivery unless you live close to ocuk or can collect.

also with all the new stuff comming out you might want to see how much the new componets may cost and see if your 900 can get you a better machine if you buy later and at one.

fair point but I'll be honest me and saving don't mix lol so it's best for me to do it like this ;)

i would say make hdd, sound card, case and psu your first purchase or first items to get as they will most likely decrease in value the slowest and have the least effect of your pcs performance. ram should be second unless prices start skyrocketing then MB, CPU and GPU last as they are will make the biggest difference to your pcs performance and it also allows to get a quad and a next generation graphics card if you wish.

psu should be o'k as i have a hiper 580 type r so it should be fine but yes i see where your coming from :)

so these new quad cores will work with current am2 boards (with the oems latest bios update) ?

btw cheers

whether the new quads will work or not will depend on the manufacturers, the bios and the chipset, however the amd quads should physically fit (browse cpu forums for more info). also search for the hyper explosive club on the forums to see if you think the hyper 580 type R is worth keeping.

well it's a standard 580 lol not modular as my 580 r did die a while back but i've had this one well over 12months now so the thread does not scare me too much lol but saying that once i have everything i will try and sqeeze enough for another psu ;)

Not really. Just store money away in a jar or whatever. You'll be kicking yourself when newer hardware comes and/or price drops as you've only got half a rig in your room.
