Sounds like government plans are afoot to incentivise people into ditching their old diesels in a desperate attempt to reduce emissions, having spectacularly missed targets.

As the owner of a ten year old diesel Volvo, I will of course be taking advantage of any gifts that come my way, whether or not the scheme is deemed to be a good idea overall. It'll stipulate that people swap them for some very low emission vehicle though. Maybe a hybrid something or other.
