Just a quick one as my googling turned up no results. I am about to rebuild a pair of suspension struts tomorrow with new shocks & springs however the old manufacturer fitted springs had the last 1.5-2 inches covered with a plastic sleeve at either end whereas the new aftermarket uprated springs have an uncovered end.

Is this fine or do I need to be looking at doing something with the new springs?

Don't worry about it. I swear all they do is hold water and accelerate the corrosion process. I've replaced 100's of springs and never bothered if the new ones don't include them.

It's there to stop the first few coils clacking together and making noise.

Cut the sleeve along it's length and refit it to the new spring.
