Platypus' Beginners Guide to Running

A pair of NB, i think the 1340's.

Unfortunately none of them come in my width fitting (4E).
Even the NB website don't seem to have my size in stock, although i have emailed both retailers asking when they are due back in.

I have the same size feet as you and I have a pair of Nike Flyknits, Asics 1170 and Nike Lunarswift 3. They all fit across the width, I'd say the lunarswift a are the most comfortable so perhaps try the stability version of those.

going to buy some new shoes tmw.

need suggestions

I love my Inov x talons what is the nearest road shoe that is like them?

I want light shoe with a bit of support(tbh rather they be light than too much support and heavy as f)

Is that the standard width versions (D)? or the 4E ones. Not having much luck sourcing the lunarswift in 4E.
Quite like the look of the asics, would you rate them second or last in comfort? :D

They're all standard widths. I've only used the asics twice so far they're still very comfy on nice to run in and they definitely have the most cushioning out of the three I'm probably just more used to the swifts as I've had them the longest.

The 1170 is a very highly rated shoe all round and you won't go wrong with a pair.

If you really want to get the 4E width though you could use Nike ID and custom make a pair of Pegasus or Lunarglide 4's (there's probably other options too) but it won't be as cheap.

Well I just did my first ever run... Well I call it a run but most of it was walking, gotta start somewhere right! My aim is 5k in 8 weeks. Feel pretty good considering! Looking forward to doing it again on Friday now :)

Ran in these, so comfy I love them :)

My shoes arrived yesterday, went for the Asics 1170 in the end, normal width version. Got to say they arent too bad, a little tight but very bearable and generally comfy.

First run tonight and didn't go too horribly, feel good after. Also signed up for the great north run the other week so thats something to work for!

So I ran a new personal longest distance on Saturday morning, 8k. Did it in 44 minutes and whilst not blazingly quick, this time last year I could barely run a mile. So I'm pretty pleased!

May go for a 10k this week

just been looking on endomondo and seen my total running stats (ive filtered the biking out) since I started using it in May. Its a little bit out because there's all of April 2011 and most of May missing.

720km in 8 months which i'm quite pleased with.

88952cals which is only 164 burgers :o

Horse burgers? :D

Should be sub zero for tonight's run, so best find the tights and gloves.

I done a cheeky 12 k jog this morning, was rather nippy.

Is there anyway i can use Endomondo without carrying my sgs3 around with me?I used it once when i took a backpack with me couple weeks ago and liked the fact it fed me stats through headphones.

Hmmm, 12 weeks to the Brighton marathon. I'm a bit behind on my training. I'd better ramp the long runs up by about a mile a week to get over 20 miles by April

I lost one of my stabilicers while cycling to work yesterday, so there'll be no running for me until the ice clears. There is only 10 weeks until the Croydon half marathon, and the furthest I've run so far is 10.5 miles, so I'm roughly on track - just need to keep the miles up!

is it acceptable to run a 10km race with a camelbak haha?

Personally I don't think you should need to drink at all on a 10km race.

When I first started running I always took a drink with me, but you don't actually need a great deal of hydration over such a short distance.

If anything you'll just give yourself stitch. Have a good drink an hour to half hour before running.

You also probably don't want the 1 or 2kg weight on your back.
