Play 7.1 speakers in stereo - Vista Realtek HD audio (ALC889A)

Hi,

All I want is to play my 7.1 speakers through stereo, no surround sound.

Is there any way?

in vista audio options, set the speaker configuration to 2 speakers?

There's the options of stereo, quadraphonic, 5.1 and 7.1. Unfortunately stereo literally does stereo... only uses 2 speakers

What happens when you set it to 7.1?

Music, and other audio plays out of the 2 front speakers.

In the 7.1 test the left and right speakers don't work, everything else does.

When an effect is applied to the sound every speaker works, but it sounds horrible because of that effect.

Sorted now though. I'm using the sound drivers Vista automatically installs with the fill speakers option ticked.
