Did anyone else play these back in the 90's before the internet came along? Football manager on paper, ringing random people and asking if you can buy asprilla for 7 million. :D

Yup, used to love it. It confused the hell out of my Dad when I got a call from the manager of Fiorentina wanting to buy one of my players :D

Yeah, I played it too. We could either call or pop notes in to try and buy players.

All a load of rubbish really, the results were so random! Can you imagine playing football manager now and having to wait a week for your next match? Would drive you mad!

Sounds exciting, I was too young to play although I do like the idea of calling up a random person and asking to buy a certain player.

The idea sounds fun, not sure I fully understand the workings though. Did you have separate cards which you traded with others, that you sent in the post after a deal?

Had a browse but looks

You got sent a bunch of paperwork every week with a match report and the likes, and you would send it back with your team selection and attempted signings.

it's done by email now, been playing necom again for a few weeks and its bloody addictive, more so than football manager in my opinion

Used to play this (I was Aberdeen manager), but quit when the Celtic manager conned me out of Andreas Thom in exchange for Billy Dodds. We had a gentleman's agreement on the phone that we'd swap, I submitted the transfer but he didn't! Raging I was! :D

Yeah I played one of these back at school (around 24 years ago). Always had to keep an eye on new players from abroad who were not in the game so could get them in on a free transfer. Pretty sure I was manager of Den Bosch (Dutch I think?).

Wow, this one obviously passed me by completely!

Now I feel like phoning up a total random and telling them I'm interested in one of their youngsters :)

I played one by M&E Sports. I was kind of addicted but had basically built up a couple of super teams, they did me a favour eventually by sending me a stern letter saying they were lowering my players ratings for abusing it and having a massive squad of players with 35/36 positional rating and mid-high 80s overall. I gave up then and there, for me it was kind of a 'metagame' where I'd try to build the best squad possible (my results were very average, it didn't feel like there was much of a correlation between results and the ability of the players on either side).

I remember prior to that I used to cut out articles from newspapers about new players and send letters begging them to be added to the game if I had that team (this was before they let you just add them to any team). I was manager of Barcelona so obviously got a few decent players!

I still 20 years later remember the name of my biggest rival, Terrence Biesty from Manchester. We used to end up chatting about football in general and other stuff, I still remember when the IRA bombed that shopping centre in Manchester.

I'm still playing necom if anyone fancys joining for a bit of nostalgia etc you can join here http://necomleaguesoccer.co.uk/websi...php?page=page0 or it's probabaly best emailing Neil the owner here – [email protected]

necom is his second job these days so it might take a day or two for him to reply, I would suggest asking to join game 64 as that is where everyone is these days, http://necomleaguesoccer.co.uk/websi...hp?page=tabs64 if you ask to join one of the unmanaged clubs and ask for as much money as possible he will probabaly give you something like 120 million if you ask nicely, oh and rather than do it by post I would ask for him to give you details to login on the website.

Here is the forum for game 64
http://necom.proboards.com/board/17/game-64

a lot of deals are done on whatsapp these days, so once you have registered on the forum and joined just ask get in touch with me and i'll add you to the whatsapp
