Play & Charge Problem

The controller did that flashing doo dah that shows the battery is low last night, so I've had it connected to the console all day and it's been charging.

Now I've been playing on the console most of the day but still the controller battery isnt fully charged? The charging light is still red and on the battery meter it shows 3 out of 4 bars. How long is it supposed to take to charge up?
 
Well, it looks like a replacement is the order of the day, it shouldn't take longer than 3 hours to charge aparently.
 
I'm going to get a replacement as I now have the freepost address to send the item back to.
 
Got my replacement, was charged in 5 hours for it's first charge last night, and the battery got barely warm.
