Just wondering if anyone else used play.com for purchasing mp3s prior to Rakuten buying them out?

Lost a large amount of my mp3s due to a hd failure and realised all of those mp3s I'd bought back in 2012/2013 are no longer downloadable!! any workaround they announced that i missed? googleing got me nowhere
The joys of digital only owner ship eh?...

They are gone.

Had not used my play.com account for years and years. Didn't receive any mail about them being bought out.
My mp3 player died.
My account didn't work on the new site. When I did finally get access to it again. I had access to all my DVD order history but there was no trace of the music.

I expect there was a "download all your music by this date or loose it" email. I never saw it though.
Have not used Rakuten for any purchases, did not even realise it was still a thing.

Looks like its just a store front for other stores now.

This is where in theory you should be able to obtain them via "other means", as you've already purchased a license for a copy - where the copy comes from should be irrelevant.

I know it's definitely a grey area, but especially as we move more towards digital ownership, it's something I feel quite strongly about.

Then there needs to be a central, independent database on a persons purchased licences. Could cover TV, movies, games, comics, books, audiobooks etc and everything else we get in a digital format now.

Or just have a sensible backup solution.
