Upstairs I have my HTPC which has 5 hard drives with all my movies on. This runs to my projector via HDMI.

I have a panasonic VT65 TV downstairs which is connected to the internet via ethernet cable.

I would lile to be able to switch my HTPC on upstairs and be able to connect to it via the TV and see all my movie...... Come to think about it my movies are MKV bluray so my TV wont play this on its own :(.

Is there a device I can connect to my TV to make this work? So I can play my movies over my network? Would be great if I could see movie pictures for each movie.

:)

Presumably when you say the TV is "connected to the internet", it's also on the same LAN as your HTPC?

Plex Server running on your HTPC plus whatever is the cheapest dongle/device you can find for your TV that supports a Plex Client. Chromecast or the Sky NowTV/Roku box would be my bet, or if you already have a games console most of them support Plex now.

This would give you exactly what you want, and is cheap/free and very easy to set up.

Thanks!!.. Yes both on the same network

I will see if my ps4 can do it :)

PS4 has a Plex Client, but you will need to subscribe to the Plex Pass to get it I think, it's one of the client apps behind a paywall. Shouldn't cost a massive amount and is well worth it.

The actual Plex Server software is completely free though.
