certainly looks very sleek, even HD compatible, its gonna be expensive, but the ps3 is a reliable machine and im sure with firmware updates will prove to be one of the best consoles ever made, sony is focussing on making the console more of a media centre rather than console, whereas the 360 focus purely on gaming really, i own all 3 consoles but the future now looks brightest for my ps3, especcially since i have 2 psp's too, the remote play will come in handy for recording shows when im out and about, just hope i can find free wi-fi somewhere

The problem all consoles face and have always faced is that people do not like addons.

I think this looks like a fantastic product but with the price of PVR's tumbling sony are going to have to be seriously keen on the price to shift units.

A lot of the big TV makers are now building freeview and PVR functions into the new ranges of LCD tv's as well so this will have a knock on effect on the PVR market also

i know what your saying about the add-on's business, webcam's, headsets, keyboards, remote control's, mice, psp, pvr, hard drives, etc. things can become very costly, but i like the look of the console and im sure this add-on will be very small but expensive, you are paying for a big brand name, sony have always been expensive and people are willing to pay for quality, look at sonys lcd tv's compared with samsung, they can be up to double the price, but the quality on sony's lcds is better, especcially when playing SD content, i like this gadget, will have to see the price before i buy, and what channels it will be offering, BBC HD is meant to be very good, and its the first time ill be able to watch true HD tv on my lcdtv. im pretty sure pvr's wont be getting built into most lcd tv's, think about the costs, first of all you need dual tuners, then you need a hard drive, then it has to be extremely small so it will fit into an lcd tv without making it fatter, i would prefer to have a quality specialised system rather than a cheaper built in system, time will tell, but im sure this is one of their better products, i just hope the price isnt too much so it fails

I don't think you can get HD via freeview in the UK I think the public tests have been going for a while but the rollout is not until 2012 (I think)

I know that Germany broadcasts a lot more TV in Hi-Def so for a europe wide launch it makes sense but I don't think we will see HD freeview for a while.

I was going to get Sky HD but it is just not worth the cost for the available channels imho

I think the price will be between £70 and £100. A reporter asked in an interview if it would be £150 and they replied it would be no where near that figure.

might need to invest in a larger hard drive if i get this, which does eat into costs, a decent 2.5" costs like over £200 some even hitting over £300, damn they are expensive, i do have an external 500gb seagate but i dont think it will be able to record to USB devices, if it does im sorted

You can get a 160GB for under £50 - Surely you don't need more than that?

i have over 1TB of movies on my pc, my 500gb external isnt enough at the moment, what i do is transfer movies to the external, then transfer from external onto ps3, the movies play a lot better from its own hard drive rather than using a usb device, so i would like to have a lot of movies on my ps3, so my family can watch them whenever they want, like my wee bro who is only 11 so i dont want him trying to copy files himself and messing it up, so the larger the better, i wouldnt upgrade unless i was getting at least 250GB, which should be enough for roughly 200 movies plus 50 gb for the consoles needs

I'm definitely getting this, will be ideal for uni and the psp integration will be an added bonus! Subscribed to a few online retailers who will provide pre-order dates as soon as it becomes available, so heres waiting! Hope Sony dont charge over the odds tho!

i reckon it will be about £74.99 - thats if it has dual tuners, if not then about £50 should be a fair price, would be better if their were official specs, its not due for launch until christmas i think, unless someone knows more

Original uk release date was actually the new year (08) obviously been pushed back iirc i heard for a spring release but cant remember where i heard it, i reckon we will definately have it before christmas.

Probably a silly question.. but why not just run a media server on your pc and stream all your stuff to the ps3? Seems kinda pointless to store it in 2 places.

Thing is sony know most ps3s have 40 or 60gb unless you upgraded so i think they will release a play hardrive either internal or external and offer recording to the external to rake it in.

i do have media server on my pc, the thing is though, you will then need your pc on, and your console on, which conumes double the power you need to, think about the enviroment man, and also the electricity costs, also when streaming from pc to console, you lose some picture quality, so your paying more in electricty and getting a poorer picture, thats why i bought the external drive, move all movies onto that, then they can be easily played on my ps3 or xbox 360

my pc is a beast, it is fully loaded, so consumes a hell of a lot of electricity, 5 hard drives, 2 dvdr-w drives, xfi with front bay, e6600 with tec cooler ( tec cooler consumes far too much electricity, i need to sell it pronto), 3870, multiple usb devices, 4 ram sticks (4gb), i got countless number of fans in there too (over 10), so i dont think its a viable solution, but i was thinking about building another pc for media only, but whats the point if i have a ps3 and 360 to do that for me, all i need is an external drive that can be easily transported

everybody's different what may be a good solution for me, isnt a good solution for somebody else, and vice versa
