just wandering i thought i read some where that play tv will be able to decode freesat ( HD ) stuff? is that right or am i being a numpty. Would be nice to watch some tv in HD as opposed to just playing games :)

Just to clear things up :-

HD WILL arrive via Freeview but it will use DBVT2 which is not currently supported by anything and that includes Play TV.

If they decide to delay Play TV once more there may be a chance that it will support DVBT2.

Play TV supports the Euro version of DVBT HD which was once touted to be used in the UK.

im not fussed - when the hell is playtv supposed to be coming out?

im well keen on the idea as i cant have sky due to renting and not being able to put up a dish

Late August/Spetmeber from what I last recall reading.

Overpriced imo, but if it has enough features I may buy one. (Recording 1 stream onto my HDD as a time is not enough to set it apart from cheapo Freeview boxes tbh, considering it is using my HDD I already own).

thats what im thinking dude
it should be less than the price of a game imo

i wish they would put a date on it - im waiting to see one in action before i buy tbh

If you compare it to cheap freeview boxes then here's what is good about Play TV :-

Uses HDMI
Upscales to 1080p
Far superior GUI
Can be controlled remotely via PSP
TV can be watched remotely via PSP
Programmes can be transferred to PSP to watch later
All in one solution - no extra box or power required under your telly

Now some of these may not appeal to some but I reckon its gonna be a decent piece of kit.

Uses HDMI - Bonus (But I already own the device and HDMI cable I am using)
Upscales to 1080p - Great (If the ps3 scales SD to HD better than your TV does (A lot of TV's have very good sclaers for SD content these days (Panasonic) )
Far superior GUI - Only ever seen snazzy static shots.
Can be controlled remotely via PSP - Functionality to be seen yet
TV can be watched remotely via PSP - Functionality to be seen yet

All in one solution - no extra box or power required under your telly - Selling point for me

Just to play Devil's Advocate (see bold comments).

On paper it looks great and the technology is not new, so the constant delays make me think they have hit some technical issues (specifically you can;t record TV whilst playing games, watching Blu-ray etc).

I just need to see more of it to be convinced that I am not being ripped off tbh. The PSP functionality in action would sell it to me as it is genuinely unique (ignoring slingbox etc).

Here it is in action, the GUI & PSP remote play.

Anything is better than the interface I get from my Toshiba 32WLT66. Worst remote control and interface ever.

Best freeview I've seen is on my parents Sony Plasma (KDEP42XS1 IIRC), so it gives me plenty of hope for Sony's PS3 add-on.
