Hello.

I managed to get a play with the studio lighting at my college today. These where shot with a 30D with 70-200 L F/4 and 18-55mm. The light set up was two 1000Watt Bowens. The light on the right had a white umberlla while the light on the left had barn doors.

I have removed spots from the persons face as well as using a glamour style process of bluring and unmasking the face to help try and give a slightly smoother skin. The eyes have been enhanced a little. Little boost of sharpness and saturation and auto leveled was also the order of the day. Then resized to 800 pixels wide. If anyone would like to see some 100% crops as some sharpness and detail has suffered due to the resize.

Time for the photographs now.

Hope you all like.

sorry, I don't like it.

The composition is weird and as if he's not with it in the picture. The quality of light is too brutal, doesn't work with the subject. If you were to going for the sharp shadows on one side, best try it in a dark studio with just the flash as the light source. Also try using the softbox, the light is less harsh.

Have to agree with Raymond - sorry :(

on the plus side though you have access to studio lighting which is something i would love to try, you should go back and try some different combinations, perhaps look at some examples online and try to emulate them.
A pretty female model might help too :p

Suggestion...

One softbox on the front left, 1/2 softbox on the background or 1/2 snoots to create a interesting affect. then try it, I think the light is all too hard, (but thats just my a-level opinion some might have better experiance than me).
