I was at Autosport International at the NEC today, and I got the chance to have a play on a PS3 on the Stuff stand.

On the Stand, there were 3 PS3s running 3 separate games. The first was F1, the second GTHD and the third Motorstorm. All were running on large LCD TVs at 720p.

I only got to play the Motorstorm demo, but it wasn't really a bad game, but the controls did feel a little clumsy, however it does feel like it could be a great fun game to have with mates with all the physics going on and damage etc.

The controller to me didn't feel too bad, however I really do miss the rumble there, and the lack of it makes the controller feel TOO light, and nearly cheap. I didn't get a chance to try any of the tilt / motion stuff, so I can't comment on that. The R2/L2 triggers didn't too bad, I thought they were going to feel wrong, but they worked nicely to me.

Overall, I will say that I was quite underwhelmed by the console. Each game looked good, but nothing looked spectacular. F1 and GTHD had nice solid smooth high framerates, and Motorstorm probably was the best overall looking game of the three, but they all looked like they were missing some final finishing touches that make them look special. I did notice a couple of small slowdowns on Motorstorm also, but for the rest of the time it ran nice and smooth.

So coming from an Xbox 360, it was nothing new to me, and everything was either on par or below that of what I have seen on the 360, but the 360 does have the advantage of more games and being out for well over a year. Two of the people with me today said they weren't very impressed by the looks of it, and one hadn't even seen what a PS3 looks like before.

The PS3 sure has potential, ther's no doubt about it. Just to make me want to buy one, it's going to need a lot more titles that I will personally want. I'm sure there's loads of titles that people will buy a PS3 for, however I'm a little bit more picky I think and I want more than just MGS4 to make me want one.

Sorry for a new thread, so Yewen if you want it in the main PS3 thread, give it a merge ;)

i also played one today, weird was going to start a topic

Quick thoughts on the ps3, in a rush, may do more later, excuse probable spelling errors

Looks

The thing looks nice, and i can see it looking good in a nice AV setup, but its huge, i suppose once its there your not going to move it often

No noise from what i heard, a welcome relief from the 360, although i am one of these people that doesnt notice the fan that much

Interface

my god in my opinion it looks bland, boring and most important hard to use, ive never used a psp and so have never used the thing before, but id never used the 360 one either and i can use that, the 360 is bright and friendly to

Games

Played ridge racer and was dissapointed, i mean i played the 360 version and loved it, the thing looks EXACTELY the same, we will be showing pete(the guy who bought the ps3) the ridge racer 6 on xbox 360 tomorrow

He has a few other games but il play them later

Controller

I hated the last one and i hate this one more, it feels lightweight, the lack of rumble humph, and the triggers feel REALLY cheap, i mean like fall of the controller style, the rest of the controller is good build quality though

one thing i did notice was that the "guide button" needs to be held for 5 seconds, rather than the tap on the 360, i dont like to hold it, it was annoying. and when i did access the guide, the options were carp, switch off and 3 others which i cant recall, but no evidence of a friends list

Online

Couldnt help me mates get in online, due to difficult menus, any help on inputting a MAC code would be very greatful

il happily admit i only spent 5 minutes with the thing, on a 42 inch HD tv, and was underwhelmed, maybe its common sense playing through, if he had paid £250 for it id be happy enough i suppose.

As it stands he paid 900 for a hong kong 60GB ps3, 1 controller, ridge racer, a robot game and gengi?

Overall a very low 4/10

i will be giving the ps3 a good session in the next few days but i cant see my mind changing

fools like that deserve to be relieved of their cash tbh

Price is irrelevant as in a month they will be "normal" price ie most people WONT be paying anything like that

In general though it sounds like RR hasnt had any work doing to it, so both machines do exactly the same - I guess to be expected as they are the same generation

I thought GT HD wasnt ever going to be released (been cancelled) or was that another GT game for ps3?

The first few games arent that special - looking forward to motorstorm just because it looks fun but know there will be a lot better to come (hopefully pretty soon)

I dont mind admittting I would love to have a top line PS3, even if it doesnt get much gaming use for 6 months, if the blu-ray release list that was around here earlier is to be believed there are decent films just about to appear - and it would be good to see 007 in HD at some point

Nah. this is Ocuk...People have a go at you for buying ps3 with your own hard-earned money...It is acceptable.

Indeed, but he's still a fool for spending that amount when (according to this thread) you can get exactly the same thing for MUCH less, no doubt without too much hunting around.

You shouldnt have to enter a MAC address as it should do this auto for you. My mate had the same problem with his but a reset of his router sorted the problem and it was a quick setup from there. You will need a Japanese or USA address to register the console against to be able to vist the Playstation Store. I recomend downloading a few of the demos when you are there as just playing RR7 is by no means giving you decent look at what the console can do.

Oh for heaven's sake - it's a standard reply for people to say in situations like this, don't pick on it. That's just pathetic.

Umm. A month? Its not "Scheduled" until March. Its January, That means its at least 6 weeks, I would say probably 10 at the very earliest they will get to the stores. This will as always be in limited supply so it will probably take 1-2 further months for them to be readily available and a further 2 months before you are not forced to buy £150 worth of games and accessories with it,
TBH I would expect Sony to have set a date by now, and if they have not done so within the next month, get ready for the wait till September;)

GT HD was always going to be and still will be a Tech Demo IIRC

I have played Motorstorm (there are better racers out there), I have also heard it described in the indusrty as the most featureless racer of all time. So I would not hold your breath on this one. (obviously the development team could be hard at work creating a masterpeace, so all I'm saying is don't get your hopes up).

Had a go on Motorstorm in a sony shop in Hollywood the other day, seemed ok, graphics were quite good, although nothing amazing, was nice and smooth though. Got bored of the game after 5 mins tbh. Had a quick go on NBA which i thought was pants, but then i hate basketball so... All in all typical release day type stuff.

I like the controller, it's old school but it's still nice. The console itself is ugly as hell and massive, like a huge black dvd player with bad styling. Was suprised to see quite a few games out for it already, they had a wall full. $499 & $599, too expensive even in dollars.

Played on a wii in another place, had good fun, although it does seem childish.
Made me glad i've got a 360 really. Having said that I'll probably get a ps3 in a year or so when there's some decent games support and it's cheaper.

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but the gears of wars threads were locked up or deleted when they were discussed pre- official uk release.

But here we are now allowed to discuss PS3 stuff pre uk release.

What gives ;)

That was because of piracy and people saying they were playing on an imported copy, when in fact it was downloaded.

So you have to prove a legit copy with the 360 but not the PS3?

Suppose that will change when the PS3 gets hacked.

I just thought if I could get talk of PS3 games banned til release in the UK the comparison arguments would go away til 2009 ;)
