playing 1080 files

I'm trying to play these 1080 demo files from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx
and they work with my media player 10, but the frame rate is absolutely crap.
Any tips on playing High Definition 1080 files on my PC? or am i stuck with this framerate?
My pc is a barton 2500 @ 2.2ghz with 1280mb of memory. my graphics card is a geforce FX 5900

Get a faster processor, my pc can't handle 1920x1080 files either and its an athlon 64 3200+ with 2gb ram

Odd because my Athlon 64 3500+ can play MPEG2 and WMV-HD files perfectly. It's the H.264 it has trouble with.

tried using vlc?

wmp10/11 doesnt like high def stuff for some reason here.

it can handle 720p wmvhd no problem but movs it can't handle anything above 480p, tried a 1080p mov for the sake of it and it was jumping all over the place

same. just played the 1080p corel reef vid. ~66% cpu using on a singel core opteron at 3ghz. i sware that used to crawl before.

edit: same for 1080p quicktime videos. has there been some heavy optimisation while i wasnt looking?

720p videos play fine on my Opteron 146 at stock, but not 1080p. Overkill for my monitor as well.

Strange, 1080 videos run fine on my A643400 1GB 6800AGP, which is farly old by current standards.
CPU utilization hovers around 50%-60%

i forgot to say that was with my onboard x300 gpu!

Man, those videos are sick! Just ran a couple on my Dell 2407WFP and nearly fell off my chair. Quality like that just makes you feel like you are there when they were shooting with the cam ;O

wtf? my [email protected] with 1gb ram and ti4600 ultra played them without a single problem. Even when i dropped cpu to 2.3 worked fine @ 1152x856 res

I even got the T2 trailder 1080 on this setup

Just tried the T2 1080 trailer on my laptop - 1.86Ghz Pentium M, 1.5Gb RAM, 128Mb ATI X600 Graphics. Worked flawlessly. Res is 1920x1200.

Ok I'm lying lol, the 1080p wmvs work fine on my computer, just tried the coral reef one, it's the apple hd stuff where it struggles (possibly because they use a higher bit rate)

Make sure you aren't using craptime to play the apple videos because it's so poorly programmed it makes even the best systems grind to a halt.
