Behind you... Naked!
Hopefully a simple one this, but Im lost.

I have 2 options for playing back my MidiFiels on the PCs.

1 - Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with a DB50XG SoundCard

2 - The Yamaha SY-XG50 Software synth.

Both are nice.

Now, in my main PC, I am using an XFI so obviously I am using the TBSC in another PC, but this one, since going dual core, has been unable to playback Midifiles using the SYXG without it losing notes... Almost half the notes in fact.

Anyone know why this is?

It does the very same thing on all my dual core PCs, no matter what SoundCard I use?

I have tried looking for a patch, but cant find one anywhere?

Anyone know somehting I dont?

TA!

No idea - but one solution may be to set the affinity of the software that is playing the midi files to one core.

Do this by right-clicking on the application in task-manager.

Oh heck, fair do's!

Its not perfect, but its cured it by about 90%... At least I am now able to listen to the tracks... Like I said not perfect, but much, much better!

Thanks mate.

Never thought of that to be honest.

Ta!

No problem.

Another thing to try (in addition to the 'set affinity' fix), is to alter your boot.ini file so that you have the switch '/usepmtimer' after the line that loads Windows. Just don't change the line other than adding the switch ;)

These instructions cover adding it to solve a different problem in 64bit Windows, but the same instructions hold true for any version:

Naturally you will have to reboot to see if it's made any difference :)

Best of luck!

Interesting???

I was just about to get back on this as it does not look like its worked as well as I had originally thought... I tried playing a little bit more complex Midi file and it was bad again!

never heard of this /usepmtimer thingy... Im looking now.

Will get back once I have rebooted.

Nope!

Still getting no luck.

It does the same with Windows' own GS Playback too!
