Playing Deus Ex for the first time

Been playing it myself again. First time with the pistol. Maxed out, no need for rifle. lol. Never went for pistol before. Love it that every time I play the game I try something different and it feels fresh.

Also everytime I play it there is a new update. Now I am on DX10. Don't see what is wrong with these graphics:

I just got to France. So much more fun than recent games I have played such as Crysis 2.

As much as it pains me to say it, bland lighting, repetitively tiled textures, boxy geometry, primitive texture mapping, hard edges between surface/texture transitions, vegetation/tress look like cardboard cutouts. Unfortunatly IMO the updated renderers and high res textures just highlight how dated it is graphically :(

lol. I never said it looked like Crysis. You remind me of someone else I know, won't play it because graphics look outdated

You know, if this is your type of game, after about 1 hour, even less maybe, you stop seeing the graphics and start getting immersed into the story and gameplay. I can play this game with no updates and enjoy it just fine for example :)

I have always loved graphics, but never do I let it get in the way of me enjoying a good game ;)

As usual, each to their own I say. Some people just can't go back. If Crysis 2 was a PC only title and pushed the barriers like Crysis did, many people would probably not enjoy gaming for a few years, as everything else would look bland in comparison.

I never play games based on how pretty a game looks, but that is just me. I'm the total opposite, and I actually thought Crysis was a very average game at best, when you strip away it's visuals - haven't even tried Crysis 2 yet.:o

Anyway, do you guys think it is inevitable they will re-release Deus Ex in some weird HD make over to cash in on the game's success? I feel it's going to happen, and sure, it would be nice to have the game updated to look less old, I feel they would screw it up as well - hell, I don't even like some of the graphics mods for Deus Ex because lighting/textures feel too out-of-place for me, I prefer to play it old school - am I the only one ? :(

I personally enjoyed Crysis, not so much Crysis 2. But the game had little to no replay value for me. Though I would fire it up every time I did a graphics upgrade and walk on the beaches and shoot some birds down. lol. In like 3-4 years only completed it two times. Where as I have completed Deus Ex 2 times also, however I spent 3-4 times longer with Deus Ex and had a lot more fun :)

Even playing it last night I discovered a few hidden places I never in my previous play throughs. Love it when that happens. From what I understand there will be a lot of hidden places and places to explore in Deus Ex: HR

I will play again old school style in August :)

I was originally going to try and sneak my way through the whole game, but then I decided I couldn't be bothered with that, and instead have started hunting down every guard I can find and thwacking them in the back of their knees with the baton. First hit makes them start to run, then I can usually just run after them and hit them again for the KO. I was originally going to go sniper though, but at the moment I'm finding this more fun. Plus without the skill points in it, this is far easier too, and means I can sell any ammo and stuff I find. Yay profit!

Unfortunatly as a level desiginer I see every little hint as to how out dated the graphics are, every place where they haven't used trim to hide texture/geometry transitions and so on no matter how long I play it :S

and yet the actual level design is considerably better than modern games with all their shine and polish but very shallow and corridor like design.
