playing HD content

hopefully this is in the right forum.

anyway, i have an amd 64 3000+ with 1gb ram and an ATI x850.
when i play 720p content with bitcomet in the background sometimes the playback stutters or the video slowly goes out of synch.

i was wondering, is there anything i could upgrade to sort out the playback problems?

also, would i be correct to say that HD playback is no longer cpu intensive as newer video cards will handle most of the processing?

More RAM and a dual core CPU might help.

The 8500/8600 cards from Nvidia can help decode HD content taking some load of the CPU.
