Playing HD .mkv Files

So I have a few .mkv files at 720p here on my MBP, but I find that it doesn't play very well. I would've thought my spec is good enough to play these kind of files?

In VLC it'd give me the "computer too slow?" message pretty often. Then I tried this thing called Perian and whilst that played it without stutter it seemed to cap the framerate so that the video looked slow to the eye or something.

Any ideas?

I have this same problem with a 1080p file. M Player doesn't play it at all (for me), Perian is a bit better if you wait for it to load all the way before trying to play. It plays fine in windows though so it's definitely a software thing.

Those of you that don't have problems: are you playing back HD video?

MPlayer doesn't like my files either, so I guess it just doesn't support .mkv at the moment.

I think the reinstall did the trick, tried out some more files and it seems I'm only having the problem with only one of them so that's nicely isolated :) The rest play very smoothly.

How do I check if it's ok?

Magicboy - Right now it's on an external, but it was the same before I put it on there.
