How is this done?

I've got a Dell P2414H monitor however it doesn't have an HDMI port but that wouldn't be an issue as I can get a DVI to HDMI cable.

How do I get sound from the monitor to the next-gen console though? (Not decided which console to get yet...)

But I think it involves connecting it through my PC's soundcard?

Can anyone confirm please?

Cheers

I use a dvi-hdmi adapter thats plugged into my monitor (benq g2220hd) and use a hdmi lead as normal.

For sound I use a headset directly connected to the joypad, They came with an RCA adapter so I can get sound via the AV receiver or the headset so I can use chat aswell.

For times when I just want a quick blast I use a lead with a headphone conector on either end and plug it into my joypad and then into my bluetooth speaker. You could do the same thing with your line in on your PC souncard.

Get a £99.95 av amp from richer sounds or cheaper in clearance. I use a monitor and I needed an amp for sound.

Is there no easier or cheaper way? :|

The Xbox One has SPDIF out? Could I get an SPDIF cable to 3.5mm jack and connect it to my soundcard that way?

I think this should work Xbox one> Optical cable > Digital to Analogue Audio converter > 3.5mm to 2 x RCA Phono > PC speakers Mp3 port.

Edit:Here is a video I found might explain things bit better

You will either have to use the monitors headphone socket, if it has one, or use optical if youve got an amp that can accept that. You could use your sound card but most dont come with an optical in as standard (usually only an optical out)...

Converting optical to something like 3.5mm is gonna need a DAC as ak22 said.

Depends how bothered you are about sound quality and the cost involved - Ive got my PS4 connected for audio using optical to some Z5400s...

You can also get a hdmi to audio extractor RCA L / R then a cable to the pcs line in.

I think the Ps4 will be supporting wireless headsets soon.

Ok guys, based on the advice, is this the right way to connect it?

One of these in to the back of the Xbox:

And then in to the back of this:

and then the this also going in to that adapter and into the back of my PC's line in:

Wow, I've just read that on a PS4 you can connect USB speakers directly in to it. Does anyone know if this can be done on the Xbox One?

Why are you putting it into your PC? Dont your PC speakers have any other inputs to use? I would have thought it would need your PC on when you want your XO on which must be a pain...

cjb1118 is referring to the box in your second picture as it says it is an analogue to digital convertor (ADC) not a digital to analogue convertor (DAC)

If I connect it to my PC's sound card it will require the PC to be on, but that won't be an issue at all because it'll all be at the same desk and my PC is pretty much always on anyway.

Ok so I think this is the way it needs to be. A 3.5mm would be the wrong one, I think I'd need 2 x RCA to 3.5mm jack instead.

Is this right this time? :p

Yes :).

Connecting it to your PC will work fine. I've done something similar with my Xbox 360, and now my PS4, and it works great. I much prefer playing on a monitor to a TV.
