Anyone know if its possible to keep a game at a certain patch or condition on Steam?

I want to experiment with some older versions of Torchlight without it auto updating to the latest patch number. Any clues?

Don't think its possible. Only way you could get a previous version would be to install from disc or another source. If you can update it from an external source too you'll be fine but steam will always install/update to the latest.

If you right click > properties > updates

then you can turn off automatic updates, dunno how to get certain versions or such though.

The option to disable auto updating is very clearly displayed in each games properties...

Steam will still update the game when you run it. Auto Update is just to keep the games updated in the background.

One of the main ideas behind the Steam update process is to keep games up to date.

I think you would have to find non Steam versions.

Erm... yes? I know? His question was how you play a specific version and I said steam will only update from the current version to the most recent so you can't get the version you want unless you install it with that version initially or find external sources of patches.

My GTA doesn't seem to do this for some reason then, I went to a older patch so more mods would work by doing that.

Yeah turning off auto patching is great, but sadly it will still only download the latest version of the game. Ah well. Thanks.

Classic Utnac, sadly.

With certain games it's not too much of a problem if the developers or publisher have released their patches via suport websites, filefront ect... or fan made patches for games developers have stopped supporting as you can usually modify your installation on steam. Problem is with Torchlight being steamworks you might have a bit of trouble with compatibility but you might want to try running steam in offline mode if you can get hold of the patches you are after.

What exactly are you after anyway? Torchlight is probably the most easily moddable game I've ever seen so couldn't you just make any changes you were after yourself? Within reason anyway.
