I introduced my dad to GW and WOW. He still plays a bit of guild wars.

My goodness the patience I required was saintly.

The amount of times I was stood in front of him and he kept asking were I was

The running the wrong way saying he couldn't see anything when his toons face was stuck in a wall.

"try turning round dad" :p

He did get better at it but has since taken up GOLF (the RL sport not tiger woods 05' 06' 07' 08' from EA) of all things so can't get him to play anymore... probably for the best but it was fun whilst it lasted although lots of cussing and shouting was to be heard.

Funny when he tried to pay COD then phoned me complaining that the keys config wasn't the same as GW not realising he had to config the keys to suit his style.

Anyone else tried to explain the game mechanics to their oldies.

I must admit it's great to see him being able to move the character around the screen (something which my wife still can't get to grips with hehe)

Drat perhaps move to PC games forum. still haven't tried him with a console yet... last time was playing atari tennis. :p

Me and my brother tried to teach our dad how to play Pro Evo 2008 on the 360 over Easter, was such a laugh with him running all over the place. After a couple of hours though, he could at least dribble, but was still a walkover... :p

I have enough with re-teaching my mom how to click the internet explorer button every week.

"Mom, its in the same place as yesterday"

"I know, but can you do it for me, i cant remember"

I snapped once, but i agree its hard to keep your cool sometimes.

I think I decided not to attempt playing with my dad ever again around 1986 after he hurled a joystick up the wall while playing Spy Vs Spy on the C64. He wasn't happy about the fact that I was watching what he was doing on his half the screen and kept planting booby-traps accordingly :D

The interesting thing is that parents of my generation will probably be the first ever to give their own offspring a real pasting at any game you care to mention...oh yes...the kids of today need to watch out 'cos daddy knows how to waggle a mean pair of thumbsticks :D

Well anybody that has played online with me has played with a Grandad :D

I;ve gotten my dad into GT5, mainly because he can deal with the control mechanism (wheel + pedals). He used to be pretty damn good at C&C:RA back in the day tho.

My dad had a go on Live for Speed (PC racing sim) with my Logitech MOMO wheel. Unfortunately because he had a triple bypass (can't feel his legs) and cancer (has no feeling in his hands) so he was rubbish :p

My dad used to like playing street fighter 2 Turbo back in the older times, When I was still young. He loved it because he'd pick blanka and repeatedly mash punch and fry my ass.

Slightly different from topic, But still. :p

I remeber about 10 years ago, my brother and myself convincing my dad to have a race on the original Gran Turismo on PS1, lets say after he scraped along the mountain wall more times than I care to remember...it wasn't meant to be :)

I remember when i first got my PS1 and gave my dad a pasting on FIFA98. He wasnt happy and complained that I hadn't told him all the controls.

Let him have a go at CoD4 at christmas and he still sucked. Bless ;)

Me and my dad used to play Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES.

Nowadays he just says 'get off that ****ing machine' 'I'm gonna throw that ******* thing through the window in a minute' etc.

I think he might have anger issues.

I actually got my dad playing guitar hero and wii bowling. I was amazed as he has always been so vehemently against gaming.

Bought my mum a ds for christmas, so far she has finished the CSI game, Phoenix Wright and is a bit of a demon on brain training.

You think?

This thread is hilarous... Out of interest, who is the oldest gamer on these forums ?

I am looking forward to the day I can give my skids a controller and say come and have a go if you think you're hard enough !! They are still only 3yrs old and 18months, so there's still some time to go...

I wonder if they'll even take to gaming, since the hardware will all be readily availible to them from day one... There will be none of the I want the new console for Chrimbo, cos the chances are their old man has that one already taken care of...

pah a mere child I am at 35 with PS3 and 360

Although i'm not sure at what age kids should start gaming my son will be 3 next year and already picks up the controllers despite us having a strict no gaming rule when he is awake. (Which means my gaming time is virtually 0) anyway I'm gonna ask my dad tonight if he fancy's another crack at GW tonight.

Trouble is he'll probably want to reroll again..... :p

My dad still plays Goldeneye, he's almost as good as me, but that's his limit, though he does take an intrest in the games I play.
