As title. I've had this game since it first came out and I remember a thread about it here a coupla weeks ago, so I thought, lets give it a go again. It still surprises me how good it looks after all this time and the gameplay is so much better than either of the two sequels. I'm running it on a 22" samsung monitor at 1280 x 1024 although the screen's native res is 1680 x 1050, anyone know of any ifo where I can get this game to run at 1680 x 1050?:)

Start, Run, Regedit.exe

>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
->SOFTWARE
-->Sierra On-Line
--->Homeworld
---->screenDepth (color depth, ex. 16)
---->screenWidth (width, ex. 800)
---->screenHeight (height, ex. 600)

For above modifications, edit the DECIMAL

enjoy

Thanks for the heads up on this tinkering ability. I didn't know you could fiddle with 'unofficial' resolutions quite so readily.

I bought Homeworld 2 (, along with the original Dungeon Siege) again yesterday, and have just started my own play through. Having read through this thread I've been able to 'persuade' the game to work at 1280x1024, which is nice. Now I'll see if I can force Dungeon Siege to run a little better on my monitor too.

Homeworld 2 still looks the business, even after four years :eek: but the original Homeworld is still the better game though. :)

While we're on the subject, i can get homeworld 2 running at my native res (1680x1050) but it kind of... stutters? I've got a 8800GT, so it cant be hardware issues, it runs smooth but every half second it seems to skip 10 frames or so.

Tis a shame because i REALLY want to play it again.

I'd say try running at 1280 x 1024 and see if the stuttering stops. I've been playing the first few levels of the original and it looks fine at that res albeit, a little "banded" in the background textures.:)

I've tried every supported resolution and the problem still persists

I was just about to say has the 'banding' been fixed yet? It really ruins the game for me, and i never bothered playing past the first ten minutes because of it.

The banding was only prevalent in the second homeworld game, I'm playing through the first which is showing the banding 'cos I'm not at the native monitor res of 1680 x 1050, I'm using 1280 x 1024 atm and I think is causing the banding effect.
Just completed the " great wastelands" level and destroyed the taidan fleet, I forgot how awkward that level can be.:p
