Playing .TS HD Files

Trying to play a file in .TS format, in HD but can't seem to get it to work

Is there any specific software/drivers/codecs I need?

I'm pretty sure these are DVD files.

VLC player should be able to play them.

Tried that, all I get is a grey screen :confused:

Using PowerDVD all I get is visulisations of the sound :confused:

Not tried it, but apparently CoreAVC codec with Media Player Classic works

Though I would have thought VideoLAn should.

surly the program your recording them in would play them ?

They're transport streams recorded directly off a HD satellite/cable box. If VLC won't play it, it's more than likely a BBC HD stream in H.264.

You'll need a mega computer to play those but VLC 0.8.6 test 2 available from here is your best bet -

Aha, they are H.264
What sort of spec would I need to play them?

Well I have an Athlon 64 3500+ and an ATi X1900XT AVIVO graphics card with H.264 decoding and the AVIVO version of Cyberlink PowerDVD. Even with those, I can't watch those streams without it stuttering and jerking - about 1 frame every 3 seconds is average.

You probably need a dual or even quad core CPU before you can watch in realtime (or a hardware H.264 decoder).

Whether the nVidia cards do better with their PureVideo HD decoding, I don't know.

H.264 in that VLC shows the first frame then seems to freeze, guess I need much higher spec to play it

I'm trying to get my hands on this CoreAVC codec. It is supposedly the fastest software decoder for H.264. It may be a different story with that.

I got the Pro version from coreavc.com and I now get a smoother playback but it's probably about 12 frames per second and hence the sound goes out of sync. Probably need a Core 2 Duo or X2 to play it back smoothly.
