Playing video files

Hi

Running my windows x64 and now when I play films it keeps locking up the system. I can have the PC on all day long but the minute I try to play a video file (any format) it locks up the system.
I've tried it on windows media player and win dvd7 and also vlc media player but its still locking up.

Anyone any ideas?

forgot to say even when l try a convert a file to dvd file with nero it still locks up

Have you got all the drivers installed which came with your system? Do you have DirectX installed?

Sounds like either your drivers or codes are messed up. Can you play games ok?
