Playing WOW, it's a big place.

I always found the night elf starting areas quite confusing as the quests don't really flow. If you're level 11, you've probably only done quests on Teldrassil. There's a portal in Darnassus which takes you to a free flight path - turn left on to the wooden platform and there should be an npc you can talk to. Fly to Auberdine and you should find plenty of quests there.

Normally there will be at least one quest telling you where to go next when you finish an area, but its not always the case. Towns should have an arrow pointing to them on the map, and the majority of quests are in them.

yes the N-elf was my least fav of all the starting areas only one that was worse was blood elf. As that started on another island then went to the nightelf area later on lol

Fav was trolls and orcs i simply loved the orc shaman and still miss playing him but it's really hard to find a good WOW guild who are levelling alts.

No real story as such, you do a quest hand it in do another hand it in,

Do not play this game anymore. Haven't since the patch before WoTLK. Big waste of time, but before that played for about 2 years solid.

The above is completley wrong. There is a HUGE story to it WoW.

It's just if you can be bothered to read every little thing in game and all the extra bits of detail that, I'd say, 98% of people who play WoW don't bother with.

Other than that, he was spot on. Explore a lot, quest a lot, level up, meet people, go instances, go raid instances, waste life, quit game one day (hopefully for your sake).

The quest helper is a good idea but again if you want it to ruin your first and major experience in the game, do it. Some people only want to get where they are going faster, right? :)

:)

Enjoy

P.S - The best experiences you draw from WoW is your first main character and doing all the quests yourself or meeting people and doing it with them. Exploring the game for the first time essentially.

Arguably guild times are also good experiences if you are in with a decent crowd. This can take LOADS of time and patience. After this it goes down hill.

Final point: Grow some balls and drop the night elf and reroll Horde :D

i couldnt get into wow, far to boring for me :/

Wonderful, i'll make a note :)

Anyway, back to the topic. You can try Questhelper if you fancy a helping hand, but id recommend trying it without your first time around. WoW / most MMO's are huge in scale and when you first start out it can get confusing on where to go / what to do.
Each village, camp, town, city etc are essentially quest hubs. When you spot one, pickup all the quests and work your way through them. Once you complete a certain quest it will generally lead you to another quest hub.

Regarding is there a story, not sure if some of the above posters have actually played it, but yes, there is a story, lots of them :) its a world, some small and based around 1 npc and some of epic scale later in the game.

Just work through the levels at your own pace, think of levels 1-79 as training, getting to know your class inside out for when you hit 80 and then have the options of raiding, pvp battlegrounds etc, although you can enter battlegrounds at around 10+? can't remember really.
Around level 15 and onwards you can use the LFG (looking for group) system and find others of your own level to join with and go into Instances (Dungeons), far less dull as solo questing in my view.

Thanks to everyone who has replied.

I think i will just have a good look around and see where that takes me.
I love the who imagery of the game, the way it looks and the ideas behind loads of the spells, quests and so on.

Not looking to spend every waking hour on it, just to have a nice play in the evening.

Will post my realm and name when i get home.

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to post.

I am a elf at level 11

Start again ;) you'll thank me in the long run + you now have some experience of the game and will have a different starting zone.

Human Female
Gnome male/female
Dwarf Male

Only Alliance races that look decent in high tier gear ;)

Sure it all comes down to preference and opinion but 90% of the wow community will see you as gay for being a NE ;)

I have a male undead priest(70) and a male dwarf rogue (70), both = sex

Haven't played on them in over a year though :P

Allie Scummers etc

Horde is more win than allie, that is all :D *opens can of worms*

Also, I would suggest as Gustov put; trying some other races/classes. Try doing all of them until at least level 10 (it takes hours) so you get a feel of what you want to do.

Do you want to damage deal at LvL80? Do you want to Tank? Do you want to be a healer?

Do you want to do a bit of both?

Think about that long and hard because it will determine the growth of your character. Picking a class that can heal and do damage or heal and tank is a good idea and gives you options later in game.

Good examples are obviously druid & paladin. Arguably harder to play.

Also, at high level, if you are a damage dealer with no friends - don't expect to go to many instances/raids.

A high level tank/healer class will get far more action and for more "oppertunity" in game through whispers of "LF HEALER, X Instance". etc.

The class i enjoyed more than any other in my wow time (2 years) was my undead priest.

Although i had to have a melee class i could jump on so i could quickly take my anger out on people with my rank 14 MH and Naxx OH dagger :D (harbringer of doom)

Your ambsuh crits noobhead for 2132
Your backstab crits noobhead for 1729
You gain Cold blood
Your Eviscerate crits noobhead for 2218

Noobhead dies

Although those figures look pathetic now, back in the day they weren't :D

Log off rogue

Log on priest ;)

As a priest i could only be killed by 4/5 people on the server 1 on 1. I'm not sure if they are still so string but i highly recommend them for versatility. Discipline/Holy F.T.W.

I'm being serious mate, I wanted to get into it, played it for around 3/4 months. Got to around 45/50 and it just felt like a chore. I played with mates a lot, but I always seemed to not as lvl faster than them (they always did quests/instances with a top lvl mate who was basically power lvling them at the time, when i wasnt online etc)

Even though it is vast and theres so much to do it never gripped me the way say gw's did. I think mainly due to the lack of a strong storyline. It would be epic with a strong story based quest line

Wow couldn't grip you but guild wars did? There's something seriously wrong there :D

Did you ever pvp whilst leveling?

I loved the thought of being level 45 for the first time. So close to competing with the level 60's who had all the 1337 gear knowing I could kill them regardless.

Mooncloth Robe > Rank 14 rogue :D

and knubje!! where are you quoting me from lol? i didn't say that

grrr the amount of times I have died to damn rogue stealthed in the middle of the map, picking off the last person to run past them ...... grrrrrrrrrr

Yet i had more fun on my priest :S

Weird that :)

Probably because i was a freak of nature at priest and just above average at rogue because 99% of rogues play in exactly the same way...

At least they did back then

CS>BS>KS>BS>EVIS

Whist i always CS>SS>GOUGE>KS>BS>BS/GOUGE I'd only lay the 2nd BS if i knew they were going to die, otherwise the gouge would allow me to vanish, retreat etc

Difference with priest being that I dealt with every opponent in a different way.

ahhhh i miss the good days of wow :(

haha depends what your commitments are.

If you're fat don't play. = obesity

If you're single, don't play = go get a gf!

If you love your job, don't play = you will start loving wow more :(

If you have kids, don't play = kids>all!

If you go to uni/school, dont' play = meh.enough said.

So lets see , to play wow you should be
In a relationship, hate your job, have no kids and have a safe BMI.

If you qualify for all them you're good to go!

They are all of course as stereotypical as i could get :D

Of course if you have self control you can play it regardless of anything ;)

You said it yourself. Run Hc's to get gear and maybe craft some. Recommend running Voa / Os normal and heroic (Assuming ur dps) every reset. Move on to running Naxx 10 with ur guild etc. All this while collecting badges and hopefully winning rolls on drops. Now at your stage it's all about progression and upgrading gear.

thanks for all the replies. Nice that you have all taken some time to help out.

I have started again as a male human paladin. Enjoying it atm.

I love the imagery and style of the game. Things look cool and stylish.

I am not looking to spend all my free time on it.

Just want to play at my own pace and have fun finding new areas and cool items.

i am on the kilrogg realm, my name is lucous

Thanks again everyone
