Playing Xvids in Vista Media Centre (x64)

Addressed this myself only yesterday, was an inadvertent fix as I was actually trying to work out why video thumbnails weren't showing in explorer, which led me to the x64 codec pack.

Just as a side-thought, but I use KMP and I have never needed to use kind of Codec at all, and I have never come across a file that has not played 100% perfect yet?

Been using it for over a year, and for the last month I have been using Vista64 but now gone back to XP64... Still not needed any codecs.

kmp, is that a player? can't find info in the first google page :)

the problem here is inside media centre x64

Yeah, its KOREAN MEDIA PLAYER.

Media Center?
To be completely honest, I really dont care at all for Media Center anything. I find it ludicrous to have a junked up pile of crap software on my PC just to let me use a remote control? - Even more thick, is the number of people I know, who have a remote control for their MCPC and they dont sit any further than 2 feet away!!!

What went wrong with drag & drop FFS????

Anyway, KMP - yeah, plays everything I have, Video, Music, Anal... Whatever!

sitting on the sofa, it's pretty impractical to use a mouse tbh, plus it's easy for the gf and looks neat

-no need to be so hostile pal, everyone has different needs

A 32bit media player can use 32bit codecs to play media. The media is independant of platform architecture.

Media centre is 64bit so needs 64bit codecs on Vista x64 and there are both 32bit and 64bit versions of WMP. If there aren't 64bit codecs it will use 32bit media player with 32bit codecs. Hence why it can be confusing when WMP plays something that media centre can't, it's because you don't have 64bit codecs.

Hope that made sense.

EXACTLY The reason I am wanting to use it.

I can categorise everything nicely so when the other half wants to watch something, switch on TV, press big green button on remote... JOB DONE :)
