Wondering if anyone could help? I was just playing Spyro on my playstation 2, when the game froze when i fell off the side, went to exit the level and the console sparked at where the controller goes in. :( The power and reset lights both went off. Ive unplugged it just now.

Just wondering if this means my playstation2 is no more or if anyone thinks it can be fixed? Although we have had it for a few years, it rarely gets played!

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Sparks aren't good (though can occur), but I would at least plug it back in to see if anything happens before deciding its knackered.

Yeah give it another go, Personally I would be very cautious connecting it up to any expencive equipment or leaving it on unattended.

I once read that Sony made the PS2's with a fixed lifespan in useage time. I have no doubt that this is true as almost every gamer I know has had to buy at least 2 of them (I'm on my second). I burnt mine out in less than 2 years. I thought that was impressive until I got a 360. ;)

You must have been unlucky. My ps2 is still going after 5 years and I play it a lot. ;)

No you must be lucky. Or you did not play it to the levels I did with mine (I also had a flat mate and Girlfriend playing on it when I was not)

Seriously I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the PS2 has the shipped figures it has, partly due to replacement consoles being bought.

Edit: I was aware of this fact when I bought the console. I took out an extended warantee because I knew my PS2 would not make it through its expected lifespan. I also has Sonys PS1 build as an example of why I needed an extended warentee. It turned out to be a valuable investment.

.

I play mainly RPG's so 60-80 hours for an average game. I usually play till 4-5am in the morning at the weekends so I would say it has been played to a high level.

It's the 30001 series so I may have just got lucky ;)
