Playstation 3 console price drop?

Has anyone heard of some price drops being announced for the PS3 consoles?

Looking to buy one as a Blu Ray player but would be gutted to buy one just now if a price decrease was just around the corner.

ill wait IIRC Price drops do tend to happen in this area of time. Cause i remember seeing price drop on PS3 plasted on Busses around this time. If not Xmas Spending time.

I'm not sure when the price drop is happening but if you only want a Blu-Ray player then you can pick them up for much cheaper than the PS3 will retail at, even after the price drop.

Yeah thats true, but PS3 offers some thing the mrs likes.
And I assume there isnt any real difference in picture quality between PS3 and £200 odd standalone player?

Read some threads and doesnt seem too conclusive either way. So may as well go for PS3 for its extras as well as gaming.

Tesco Direct are having a 20% of consoles sale at moment - think prices are already reduced on the web site, plus theres a £5 off code on the thread on hotukdeals. Take a look over there, not sure how good the pricesare but might be worth a looky.

Took a quick look..

Can get a 320gb Slim with little Big Planet 2 for £215.90 (before £5 off or even Quidco).

That seems a good deal for a 320gb.

Play is £269 without game
Amazon is £265 without game

Theres a decent chance that a PS3 price cut will be announced tomorrow at their Gamescon conference, so it's worth waiting a day to see if that holds I think!

GOD DAMMIT! I only just got a PS3 the other day. If I'd known there was price drops planned I would have waited.

If you paid less than £200 for a brand new non-refurbished Slim then you did good anyway.

I'm still smug I managed to grab the LBP2 320gb slim bundle for £160 when Game and Gamestation were getting rid of them last month

£200 is still a very good offer at Tesco though.

I decided to bite the bullet and go for a PS3 yesterday.

Paid £215.20 for a brand new 320gb Slim, with Little Big Planet 2.

Getting new TV delivered tomorrow so will try the Blu Ray then (picked up LOTR extended editions for £30 in Tesco too).

Happy with the PS3, but the PS store and menus seem very different to the Xbox, which i think are more simple to navigate.

Overall very happy with the price though.

ermm how do I get this 5 quid off coupon? I think I might buy this 190 for 160gb slim seems pretty good I doub ti will be chepaer anytime soon? I already have a 320gb hdd anyway so I woudl sell the 160gb

Someone explain from a business perspective why Sony are dropping prices? I heard they make a loss on the sale of console as it is already, is this true?

So they expect to sell more consoles as a result sell more games and make profits from games?

And other stuff PSn plus etc..downloads etc..

The PS3 console has been profitable for a year or 2 now, they have a new version in the supply chain with a few internal and external differences to the older slim. You are right though the consoles you sell the more games etc you sell so it makes sense.
