Playstation 3 Deactivation

Finally, Sony have released remote deactivation of PS3 systems!

Downside is you have to deactivate everything at once, the individual deactivation doesn't work. But you can start fresh and only activate what you need!

Another note is that after today, you can only activate new content on 2 systems at once, stuff bought prior to this still has the old 5 activation limit.

In order to deactivate everything at once (to free up activations) do the following:

Click account, then media and devices and the deactivate button. Jobs a good un!

Im confused, what exactly is this 'deactivation'? Deactivating what?

It's more if you account share/have multiple PS3s.

The content could only be active on 5 PS3s at once. If all 5 were in use, you couldn't download content already bought. Which was a pain for me, as 4/5 of the PS3s I was active on were old 60GBs that died out completely.

Now this is out, I only have one PS3 active and can download all my old stuff!

Oh I see, gotcha. That is useful, I'd never really thought about it but it makes sense. I've only ever had 1 console, unlike my bro who has pounded his way through 3! Cant believe sony have only just created this!! Bad sony, bad!

They had a similar thing in the US, however it didn't have the deactivate ALL option, so it was like what Dan7 originally said. It'd just return an error and say deactivate on the PS3 itself.

Why this wasn't a day one feature though, is beyond me. Saves so much hassle!

I have a US account and a UK account. Could I just:

1) Reset both account passwords
2) login to this site with each account and deactivate all machines
3) logon to PS3 with each account then activate.
4) log back on to website and only 1 device will show per account?

Edit: Logging in with my UK account I an see 4 activated systems. Each one has a deactivate button but I have no idea which one relates to which machine!! I can't see a "deactivate all" option.

Is this true? I thought it was anything bought on/after the 18th?

My mate bought a couple games on the 18th that I wouldn't mind playing, but I just assumed I couldn't anymore

Click the Account tab at the top, then on the left there is an option that says "Media and Devices". Then under the Game devices there is an arrow you press to get the "deactivate all" option. You can only do this once every 6 months.

It could have been the 18th. Not entirely sure, I just thought it was happening when this tool was released online. Either way, if he hasn't activated that content on another PS3, then you should still be able to log in and download it.

Had 2 activated systems - deactivated the one that didnt have Video active...
