Playstation 3 Question.

Will an american or Japanese PS3 play UK games and would I still be able to play online with it in the UK? /noob

I just cba to wait until March 07 to get one :/

Apparently all PS3 games will be region free, so you shouldn't have problems there I don't think. I'd presume you'd not have much of a problem playing online with it either, though I guess it'll be the same as with an imported PSP, so somebody would need to confirm that.

Good luck trying to import one though

I heard that Sony won't impose region encoding but if the developer/publishers chooses to do so then they can.

apparently they are going to be region free, but i dont think much has been said about it lately.
Also i think the blu ray movie restrictions still apply??
And also you will need a step down transformer.

You are really going to pay over the odd for an import PS3, might even be March before you can get one for less than $1000 +

Added to that it won't be covered by Sony warranty so in the (not too unlikely) event of it failing, you're in trouble.

Much like the 360 but most if not all Jap/Microsoft titles are still locked. Only a hand full aren't. Don't think its worth buying an imported PS3 as most importers have stop selling Sony games and consoles.
