PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

I would ask how many games are you going to play? If you're one of those annual CoD/FIFA players who only buy one of two titles a year, then go for the slim but if you are going to be playing loads of stuff go for the Pro.

A variety of things, it's going to be my main gaming platform from this point onward. I game reasonably regularly. Probably buy 5-6 titles a year

Well, I won't be able to confirm of difference to stock ps4 but bit the bullet and ordered pro. managed to get a good deal with Very with 10% discount paid by debit card via chat so getting the ps4 pro with additional controller and 1 year psn account for 380£. Apparently delivery tomorrow as well. Got a copy of d3 as well on the way so will compare quality to high end pc @1200 vs 4k tv as I played extensively on PC with maxed out details.

I'll be interested to know how you rate the pro.

Guys I really need some help deciding between buying a Slim or a Pro!

I have never owned a PS4 before. I have a PS Vita already for remote play. In terms of budget, I *can* afford either machine, but with two little ones running around money is pretty tight at home.

If I bought a Pro, I'd be playing on a 1080p screen for the foreseeable future, until gaming 4K TV's drop price drastically. Depending on how quickly prices fall, it could be several years before I can justify investing in a 4K TV.

I'm interested in the Slim because I know there will likely be some really nice bundle deals on Black Friday. This obviously won't be the case with Pro, with it just having released.

So my question is this... would you, in my situation, either:

1. Buy a slim cos you've got a 1080p screen with no intention to upgrade any time soon and then when/if you do invest in a 4K TV, trade in your slim and get a Pro at that stage; or

2. Buy a Pro now because it's future proofed and looks like it is going to display games on 1080p screens sharper and/or with extra bells/whistles/framerates depending on what developers patch into old games/include with new games and don't worry about the 4K aspect of the machine?

I'd wait until you have a 4k TV and get the next gen console from Sony in less than a years time. If you want PS now, I'd get a cheap slim deal.

Anyone got a trade in deal on their PS4? Or a bundle with VR? I'd be tempted by a good deal including the VR with money off for a trade in.

I got a trade in with game. Original PS4 plus 5 games (any games accepted apart from FIFA 14 or 15) and you get the Pro for half price @ £174.99. I didn't have any games to trade as I traded them all in for PSVR so I just went to CEX and Game and bought the five cheapest used games for a fiver each so effectively I'm paying 200 for the pro. 20 quid secured my pro for pick up tomorrow. That was just today at 4pm in Penzance. They said they only had a couple of Pro's available outside of those that were already on pre-orders. Thought it was a reasonably good deal.

Just have to decide whether to go for a 4k 65 inch Sammy KS8000 or the curved KS9000 in the coming weeks. I'm not sold on a curved screen so tempted to go with the 8000 but reading lots of issues with them over on AV Forums. Everything ranging from backlight bleed to banding to stuck and dead pixels and even huge gaping gaps between the bezel and back panel and back panels coming away from the bezel as they are attached with double sided tape. This worries me, obviously. Apparently the 49 inch is much less likely to have issues but this would be a downgrade from my current 51 inch plasma. I'll also be in for a new Dolby Atmos, DTSX A/V receiver and a set of speakers and a 4k BluRay player but the Blu player choice is limited and I feel too expensive right now. I might end up waiting it out until next year and just enjoy the PS4 Pro and PSVR @ 51inch 1080P with 5.1 surround for the time being. By the time I buy everything, I'd be looking at about 3800 or more and if the 4K Sammy TV wasn't perfect, for that sort of cash, I'd be seriously unhappy. Lots of people buying the XBox One S just to use as a 4K BluRay player as it's the cheapest 4K Blu player available and you get the games console as an added bonus so that's always another option I suppose.

Not a bad deal, really.

I paid £332.49 for my PS4 Pro console and got Dishonoured 2 for £18.00, so I'll be selling that to CeX for hopefully £30.00 at least bringing my console to £320.00 or there about. My current Chassis C 1TB console is starting on eBay tonight.

Regarding the TV, I'm waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday to snag a 49" Sony (hopefully), to get ready for Final Fantasy XV :D

Pretty good, if you get good money on fleabay you'll be sorted. I did look at the Sony TV's but those typical Sony markup prices and the lack of quantum dot panel has made me turn my head. OLED is LG only which I refuse to buy and is not without issues and certainly isn't the amazing poster child it has been touted to be. Then there are LG's prices for OLED. I think OLED has potential but needs a few more years of development to get to being the plasma replacement it should be. 4K plasma would have been my TV of choice but sadly plasma is gone now.

I thought all games released after the Pro's release were optimized immediately?

No, unfortunately not. It's up to the game devs to patch them, or not. :( At least my understanding is that Sony say that if a game is made for the Pro, then it must have a standard PS4 version in the same box but if a dev only makes a standard version, they do not have to make an upgraded Pro version. I suspect most good devs will support both going foward and many of the bigger and most loved older games will get a patch or maybe a re-release.
