Playstation firmware 3.41 update

I guess I will get a notice when I switch on forcing me to download before I will be able to do anything internet related
 
Having to download 150mb or so for this dumb 'you might like this game' feature is useless and retarded. Come on Sony, you should have bundled this with the last major firmware, or the upcoming one.

Somebody needs speaking to at their HQ, because this costs them money in terms of time, resources and bandwidth. The mind boggles.
 
I must say that Sony are amazing at dodging the top 3 most wanted features. 150Mb for a feature I don't care for/will use.

I'm just about done hoping that Sony is going to catch up to MS this gen, they have balls'd it up, big time. Been a sony fan for as long as I can remember, and picked up the ps3 on launch day (since then purchased a slim too) - but they are so far behind MS in terms of OS level features, integration and ease of use. Mate gave me his old 20 gig (that he had replaced with an Elite) about 3 months ago (was always breaking, but enough to get my interest in 360 going). 360S arrived launch day.

God, it took them almost a year for in game XMB (so we didn't have to quit a game to read a message), what chance is there of adding:-

OS level party support
OS level cross game chat
Unified invite system (thats not just some cobbled together hijack of the message system)
Play rankings and feedback
Syncing trophies and expose the trophy / leaderboard data to users in the form of XML alike feeds
Game patching / xmb patching that doesn't take hours (ie actually send a diff rather than the whole thing like what I assume MS does given it takes seconds to get their patches)

Sony still have the best exclusives, but they really need to start to think what the consumer wants, not using their gaming division to try and peddle their latest format and consumer crap (UMD, Blueray, 3dtv).
 
Cross game chat is the only major thing on that list for me, the rest I could live without. It would be nice if Sony could give us a current status on cross game chat like whether it is actually coming or not or how far along it is!

I love how literally every thread that's created that points something out about one console is immediately pounced upon by fanboys of the other console. Take the other thread for example where the guy had just acquired the PS3 and within 2 or 3 posts someone already came along and said the 360 was better, of course without giving any other reasons whatsoever, just that it was "better". Mind you that particular OP didn't help matters by asking the question "how crap is PSN in comparison to XBL".

Either way there was no need for this thread to take the form of all the other threads that include either the PS3 or the Xbox 360, a bad point also is the fact that if the console forum was split into subforums for Playstation and Xbox I doubt half these console wars threads would happen as it could be seen that a certain individual had purposely gone into that sub forum to cause trouble, whereas at the moment nothing is being done about this whatsoever. I do like browsing the forum but so far this year I've lost track of the amount of "my console is better" type posts and threads, this is fine if half the posters wanted to construct their argument in a more mature manner but they simply don't and I'm getting quite sick of it to be perfectly honest. The console section is pretty much unmoderated and whoever the moderators are, because I can't be bothered to go look, should probably reconsider whether they have the time to browse the forums and see that we have a problem whenever a thread that includes the word Playstation, Sony, Microsoft or Xbox in the title is created.

Hope thats not supposed to be a dig at me, because my post was really supposed to be taken as a getting fed up Sony owner, rather than a SONYLOLZ post. On top of that, everything I've said has been factual.
 
Just completed the update, it powered down, now when I power on it is only powering off with a yellow light, which I am assuming is the YLOD. I was happily playing God of War 1 before the update. The console was only purchased last April and still has the game in the drive, not sure what to do.
 
Pull the power cord out the back and then hold the eject button down and then plug the power cord back in. It will do the fan test thing and you should be able to eject by pressing the eject button again. Then I'd just ring Sony about the issue, or consider taking the console back to where you got it from as it sounds bricked.

I thought they could never implement cross-game chat because it would break the early released games? Unless that's what they're waiting for - a period of time to elapse so they can say they don't support games released pre-2009 or something. :D

But as for the future, with Ken Kutaragi out of the way, they've been having serious talks with the major developers in designing the next PlayStation so there will none of this half-assed mess they've got with the PS3.
 
As i explained before 360 patches are only 4Mb each maximum, game updates can be whatever size, with PS3 they are all as one, so patch and updates are all the same and can vary in size. If you dont like patching your games or PS3 get PSN+ so that does it for you :D

Good lord you need to read the rules regarding signature sizes.
 
I am always a little wary of firmware updates resulting in bricking after my PS3 FAT died a death around v3.30.

I rather feel Sony are second only to Apple in terms of rolling out minor little bits and bobs and forcing unnecessarily regular updates on us. If nothing else they're little more than a hassle and this is a prime example!
