Hi,
On the main menu for my playstation the maximum resolution that i can get is 1080I, as my tv doesn't support 1080P. This is fine, and displays perfectly on the screen, however when i go on call of duty 4, the resolution starts off ay 1080I, then goes down to 720P, why is this?
I looked on the back of the COD4 case and it says that the game supports 1080I so why isn't it displaying at that resolution?
Cheers

I generally go for 720p over 1080i anyway. There's nothing in it. The real resolution of CoD4 is some sort of joke resolution no ones heard of anyway :p.

COD 4 will run at 1080p although as mentioned above that's not the actual resolution of the game, to force it to run at 1080i you will need to go into the display settings in the xmb and untick 720p, although if you then try to run a game that does not support 1080i it will revert back to standard def (if you have this ticked in the display settings)

Correct, the low def option is actually ghosted out and cannot be unticked.

It's a feature of the PS3, it cannot easily just render the game at a fixed resolution, then just up/down scale to any HD/SD size..

When you 'force' 1080, you are likely to suffer performance issues, as it has to render at a slightly larger then 720p resolution to work around it's borked scaler.
