Playstation Network Connection/Chat Problems<---Read This.

Hi,

I don't actually have any problems connecting or chatting yet, but just thought I would post the Ports that ARE REQUIRED for full connectivity.
I just found the Network testing feature in the PS3 under Settings >>Network Settings>>Internet Connection Test.

For me it showed:

UPnP - Disabled
NAT Type - Type 3

You can have Type 1, 2 or 3. If you use a router you need 2. To get 3 I forwarded the following port 3658 (UDP) on my router to the PS3's IP address

This instantly changed me to NAT 2.

Now from what I read more ports are required for certain games.
Motorstorm uses 3659 (UDP)as well, so I have forwarded that too.
Also PS2 games used 4658 & 4659. I have no games on ps2 to test with though, so I am not forwarding these for now.

So I reckon you need to forward:

UDP 3658 (PS3)
UDP 3659 (Motorstorm)
UDP 3660 (Motorstorm)

UDP 4658 (PS2?)
UDP 4659 (PS2?)

I'm only listing this as it is not easy to find this info online.

Sony's manual for this is on:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connecttest.html
Some info taken from:
http://www.orpheusnet.co.uk/support/ps3/index.html

Please post here if you need help:
- Forwarding the Ports on your router
- Enabling UPnP
- Can test any Game Specific ports.

IF you have UPnP enabled on your router and PS3 as well, You do not need to change anything, unless you are having specific problems.

Edit: The ports needed for xbox live are:

UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074

It would be good if we could get a sticky with all this kind of info on to make it easy to find.

Was saying this in my head as I read the original post.

Agreed.

Just found this:

"MotorStorm Source & Destination 3659 - 3660 allow outbound + inbound
N.B.MotorStorm can suffer from 'lag' in online games if the firewall settings are not quite correct."

Can anyone test this? For now I will forward it and add to the main list.

I don't any problems. i'm getting 92 to 95% connection with my linksys router.

You are talking about the connection between your PS3 and your wireless network. I am talking about connection issues between your PS3 and online games/Playstation Network.

Mines has been working for ages without UPnP enabled on my router. It was only the other week i done the network test and found out it was disabled. I enabled it on my router and tbh haven't noticed a difference :o
