Playstation Network (PSN/SEN) - do you still keep your card details on it?

Hey,

After the whole hacking scam from last year, I cancelled the card registered to my PSN account, and did not register another one. I think I used a prepay card the last time I "topped up" my account.

Just wondering if you guys still have a card registered to your account, or do you just use the prepay cards? If the latter, do you do this for security, or because it works out slightly cheaper?

Cheers,

Su

Always been prepay as it works out cheaper - the mad thing is Id rather have my CC details on SEN than the Xbox Live any day of the week, but for both prepay always seems to be cheaper aswell as more secure...

How come?!

Using prepay just doesn't click with the impulse purchases I make :( also, means you have to have a reasonable balance in your account, which is basically deadwood money until you use it...

Considering putting my CC back on PSN, but only if it's "safe" :p

Just have a look at how many people get hacked for FIFA packs/points, dont think Ive ever seen it happen to anyone here on SEN even with the established hacking that happened on the network, yet it seems to happen to people here on a regular basis using Xbox live.

I dont know where the weakest link is but I doubt theres that many stupid people here that would give their details over inadvertedly or have passwords that are easily brute forced and even if there were it should happen equally on the two platforms but it skewed heavily towards Xbox live with the anecdotal evidence Ive witnessed here.

You could just get PSN cards online quite quickly, think the smallest amount though is £25...

Just search this forum for 'FIFA' and 'hacked', there was a thread on this but I cant seem to find it - getting OT though, and thats my bad...

My cc details are on PSN, for two reasons.

1) I don't care and will just claim the money back if any gets taken.
2) I never have any money to take :)

Absolutely not, I was someone who had attempts on my card just after this happened so there's no way i'll give them my new card details.

But then it's the same for a lot of things, I think only OcUK get to keep my card details, all the other online places I shop from, I put the details in then delete them right after my order.

It's probably because the Xbox 360 makes it much easier to send messages to a lot of your recently met online players in one go. You can do it on the PS3, but it takes longer, more menus involved and more time consuming though it does happen on the PS3 just not on as large a scale. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had a "for free coins and players go to thiswebsite.org" or whatever, I bet loads of people fall for this type of phishing.

In a nutshell I just think that the 360 messaging system makes this type of thing really easy and really fast, that's why it's probably more common on the 360.

This is what I thought until my account got hacked last year and I was told by Playstation that while ever my old account was in debit (ie. after my CC company reclaimed the money for me) - I had automatically lost anything registered to that account unless the balance was settled!?!?!

Wasn't an issue for me as I'd only ever spent a couple of quid on a crappy golf game but I would have been gutted if I'd spend a load of cash on downloads associated with the account!!!

I never store my card info with anyone online now - far easier to not have it taken in the first place rather than have to faff around for days getting it sorted!

same, but I still just use PSN cards, I tried saving my cc details once but they wouldn't accept my card for some reason so I never bothered after that :)

You can get prepay codes emailed to you within 5 minutes online and from £5-£35 so I've never felt a need to store my CC on PSN.

Yes. If my CC gets debited for stuff I didn't buy then I call them and in a matter of minutes the transaction is gone.

I never took my debit card details off, so I'd assume they're still on there, been ages since I've bought anything on there :).

My password is the same as it was pre hack as well :p.

I don't think my card details are on there any more, but the only reason for that is that buying PSN cards is cheaper. I'd happily put my details back on there if I needed to.

Shopto is a good source, I used to get them from the TheHut group when they did them with one of their regular discount codes, but last time I checked they stopped selling them. Used to get them for say £21.50 for a £25 card.

Probably other online retailers that do them (I know GAME does digitally aswell as cheappsncodes or something) but I cant vouch for them...
