Playstation One memories.

I have some amazing memories from the PS1, most notable one was probably getting it for the first time during Christmas and I had been a huge Tekken fan after playing it in the Arcades. Loaded the Tekken disc in and just proceeded to be blown away by the unbelieveable graphics...THOSE SQUARE BICEPS!! =)

Playing Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil and final Fantasy with my cousins when I was only around 3-4 are some of the best gaming memories I've got. It still remains my favourite console. I also remember loving one of the demo discs I have that had Tombi, Klonoa, Ghost in a shell and some game where you are a beach ball and you have to platform around some floating platforms collecting fruit and keys to unlock the door to the end, I think it was called Kula World.

the playstation 1 was my first proper console ,i had a snes and megadrive but could not get into those games apart from zelda games . I cant put my finger on it but psx just seemed to have games for everyone ,i still spent more time on my pc , but psx changed the way i looked at consoles

anyone also remember a game called "Devil Dice"

spent loads of hours on it ,hope they bring that on vita

I just loved the huge range of games on the Playstation. There were just a few Nintendo hit titles that the PSX did not have.

I'm not with you on that.

Golden Eye
Perfect Dark
Zelda OoT
Zelda MM
Mario 64
Star Fox 64
Pilot Wings
Mario Kart 64
F-Zero
Super Smash Bros.
Paper Mario
Mario Golf
Donkey Kong 64
Banjo-Tooie
Banjo-Kazooie
Diddy Kong Racing
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Jet Force Gemini
No Mercy
Wave Race
1080 Snowboarding
Turok 2
Sin and Punishment
Killer Instinct

Quality over quantity ;)

I'll always have a place in my heart for the PSX for it's fighting games, Resident Evil, and MGS tho :)

Ahh the memories :) Abe's Odysee, Destruction Derby 2, Die Hard Trilogy, Silent Hill, Wipeout 2097, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken. I could go on. One of the best consoles ever :D

The Playstation had the best start up of any console ever. I loved it, particularly the ending. It was always great for building the anticipation when putting a new game on, that you'd been looking forward to for ages, for the first time :)

Anybody remember playing Fade to Black. Awesome game.

That was the sequel to Flashback wasn't it? Funnily enough I've recently replayed Flashback on the megadrive... anyway...

I never had the full game but I did have a demo of it and loved it although I remember the controls being really awkward at the time. I'll have to track down a copy and give it another shot.

The highlights of the PSX for me were the "Tekken" and "Ridge Racer" series. I've always felt that Namco were to Sony as Rare were to Nintendo as there was a point where you could pretty much guarantee every Namco game was going to be quality just like Rare in the N64 days

Controls were horrendous iirc, leading to regular insta-death and control pad smashing :D Loved the atmosphere and stark graphics though

Highlights for me were Micro Machines V3, mutlitap and mates! Back when gaming was social and you could punch the jammy git who got you :)

Don't you just miss that? :D Practically everytime you play a fight would break out because of someone clearly looking at someone else's screen in multiplayer and cheating (Goldeneye and Syphon Filter i'm looking at you!) well maybe not a full on fight but at least a dig in the ribs :p

Couldn't you do something silly like 8 player multiplayer on V3 by using one multitap and sharing a controller awkwardly? I can definitely remember doing it on one of the megadrive titles

Oh you can add Syphon Filter to the essential to play list :p

You haven't got that many as you are naming awesome games, no awesome series :p.

Tomb Raider series
Populous - The Beginning
Theme Hospital
Crash Bandicoot series
Medievil
Tenchu
Medal of Honor
Syphon Filter
Driver
Ape Escape
Tony Hawks
GT2

I thought the PS was weak, it was as if Sony designed it for kids :(

MW

I agree, Resident Evil was so toddler friendly it was laughable, not to mention Silent Hill! :p

Sorry, but compared to the competition, the PS1 was easily the more mature of the consoles. N64 had Mario, PS1 had Tomb Raider. N64 had Mario Kart, PS1 had Wipeout, etc. etc.

I think the PS1 was the first console that had something for everyone with games ranging from GTA, Loaded etc to Spyro the dragon and Crash Bandicoot. Some of the best games I've ever played were on that console and looking past the dated graphics they are still great games.

Ironically Crash Bandicoots were among the most maddeningly hard on the system. Getting 100% completion on Spyro 1 was a challenge too iirc. Real kids stuff!

Ahh the ps1 when sqauresoft ruled the rpgs, though i believe my most played game was vagrant story, remember i lent it to a mate and he broke the disc, had to go and buy another copy. And getting the FF series from 7 and staying up for 24-30 hr sessions.
