Playstation One memories.

I thought the PS was weak, it was as if Sony designed it for kids :(

MW

Fail.

The Playstation is quite widely regarded as the first ever computer games system to change the notion that they are designed for children. Not just in terms of the games available for it, but also the marketing. It was one of the reasons the console was so successful and Microsoft tried to emulate it when they came into the market.

Of course it didn't appeal to the range of people that the Wii went on to do, but it did open it up to a much greater age range in the male audience demographic, but also to women too.

I remember my Uncle used to ask me for help with Tomb Raider and he never played video games at all before the Playstation.

I still have great memories of being given a PS1 at Christmas in 1997 along with Tekken 2, Crash Bandicoot, Tunnel B1 and my personal favourite Die Hard Trilogy. The Die Hard 2 section was amazing, so addictive. Honourable mention for Wipeout 2097 too. Probably my favourite ever console.

I got my ps1 to play that diehard game. The second section was so addictive. The driving was great too, but got stupidly difficult after the first couple of levels.

Couple of main memories: Picked mine up just after christmas (was working a paper round and put my christmas money towards one with Tomb Raider). Friend from over the road was excited as me and we played it for hours.

Playing Vigilante 8 for hours, upon hours, upon hours.

Playing my PS1 so much that the laser was knackered and having to turn the console upside down to get it to work!!

Good times, not as good as the N64 for me, but still really enjoyed the PS1.

Ironically Crash Bandicoots were among the most maddeningly hard on the system. Getting 100% completion on Spyro 1 was a challenge too iirc. Real kids stuff!

I never got into Spyro.
Last week I played Crash 2 (didn't bother with all the gems etc.) and am now on Crash 3.

Crash 2 and 3 have their moments, but Crash 1 is frustrating enough for me to throw the pad at the TV!

I had Twisted Metal 3 which afaik never came out on PAL :D.

this and the xbox one are my favourite consoles but the ps1 will always be special to me as it was the first time i could afford to fund my own game purchases and i spent an insane amount of time gaming :D

Only few I remember were:

Alien: Trilogy (sort of doom rip-off, but very good)
Need for speed: Hot Pursuit
Soviet Strike
Die Hard: Trilogy
GTA 2
The Italian Job

Some of them are a bit obscure but that' what I remember :)

PlayStation 1 changed gaming.

Wipeout 2097
Resident Evil
Tombraider
Final Fantasy 7-8-9
GTA
GT
Crash
Pandemonium
Toca
Colin Mcrae
Tony Halks
Dave Mirra bmx
Destruction Derby
Tenchu
Metal gear solid
Syphon Filter
Silent Hill
Driver
Tekken
Ridge Racer
Soul blade
Cool boarders
Die hard trilogy
Bloody Roar
Broken sword
Roll cage

To name but a few of my favs from the time.

I was lucky enough to work in the local game shop on a weekend. The owner would let me take home a 2nd hand game for a few nights to try out because she didn't have a clue about the games when people asked. Was pretty cool at the time as I could only buy new games every few months.
