Playstation Plus (+) questions.

I have been meaning to start using the automatic download and cloud saving features recently, but wanted to make sure I understood how they work.

I noticed a few games come up with a message when you load them with words to the effect of "This game supports saving to the cloud, do you want to enable this functionality YES/NO". When saying Yes it would direct you to turning on the "Automatic Update" feature so I said NO to this question on various games.

Now I have subsequently enabled Automatic Updates. How do I get my game saves to automatically goto the cloud now?

I never really understood whether a game would save "directly" to the cloud or whether it would save locally and then upload on a schedule (Automatic Update), but I don't think that is the case as my local and cloud game saves do not match up.

Also, since I turned on updates, it downloads patches for games I no longer own (presumably based on my Game saves or trophy lists). Can I somehow stop it downloading crap for games I will never buy/rent/play again? My broadband is not metered but it just seems wasteful to have the PS3 on downloading large updates for things I won't use.

Basically it backs up your local save game everytime it does an automatic update (daily at the time youve chosen in the XMB menu) to the cloud. You just need to ensure that game has cloud saves enabled (triangle on the disc or PSN title while in the XMB and its the first option IIRC)

With regards to patches Im not sure how it decides and most of the time it appears to be Sony produced games - I just let it do whatever, Ive had a few demos auto-download too, again not sure the reasoning behind what it choses and what it doesnt (very much doubt its based on your tastes, but what Sony want you to try)

Thanks, I just "Triangled" all my downloaded games and set the save to upload. Will have to do it for disc based games at some point.

It's a shame there is not any control of what the Update downloads. I got Mafia 2 update earlier, a game I have not played (or owned) since Sep 2010!!!

It would be even better if I could tell it download (for instance) free PS+ content or by title/genre etc.

If you want it to stop downloading random patches for games you no longer have, delete their Game Data (in the game section, above Save Data I think?).
