playstation plus subscription

i.ve been using a 3 month subscription that i bought direct from the ps store but its coming up for renewal and i'm thinking about buying a full years worth of membership. Now i can see how to cancel the automatic renewal of the 3 month plan i'm on currently but does anyone know if i cancel this, if it will remove the subscription completely meaning i wont have access to all the games i.ve had for free or will me putting on a years code before the time runs out still count towards the same subscription and so lets me keep the stuff i.ve collected so far?

If you cancel the automatic renewal then it just won't renew when your current three months is up, if that was the question. If you pay for 12 months now then it will add the twelve onto whatever is left on your current sub.

Afaik you get to keep it as long as you are subscribed, even if you have a "break". So if you stop being a plus member and then join again, you can go back to using what you have collected of games and stuff.

Not 100% sure tho

Whatever you downloaded for free when your subscription lapsed you lose access too but which stays on your HDD, anything you bought on special offer or discounted you get to keep regardless, when you resubscribe you regain access to the stuff you downloaded for free.

I think that's true for free games, but any DLC or games bought with a Plus discount you get to use even when your subscription has ended.

Discount stuff - Always yours
Free stuff - Available when you are subscribed

When we had 1 month free PS PLUs after PSN was down last year, I downloaded Streets of rage for free. After the month was up it was locked so I deleted it. I recently subscribed to Plus and re-downloaded SOR and I now have it again so it does work that way.

I've just taken up a years subscription after seeing all the free games available on PSN+ and it's true I can use all the free stuff I got from Sony when PSN got hacked. Only problem is I'm on Virgin (100mb) and for some stupid reason that no one knows the answer to it's extremely slow, took me 20 hours to download Infamous 2 at 15GB

PSN seems to be capped at about 2MB/s regardless of your connection speed.
