Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan held the Playstation Premiere 2007 event in Tokyo.

While most of us have already seen the new slimline PSP during E3 last week, this is the first time it was unveiled to the Japanese audience. The new unit will be released in that territory on September 20. In addition to the white, black and silver colors shown earlier, Japan will get 3 extra colors, Rose Pink, Lavender Purple and Felicia Blue.

Furthermore, Japanese gamers can get the slim PSP a week early if they decide to buy the Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII: 10th Anniversary Limited bundle which comes with a special silver PSP slim unit (with translucent buttons), game software (with a variant cover) and strap with Cloud's signature b'stard sword. Only 77,777 units are produced so importers better keep an eye on this item.

For the Playstation 3, some new titles were shown including Sega's new project from the developers of Yakuza and Sakura Wars titled Valkyrja of the Battlefield(that is a variant spelling to Valkyrie apparently), Keita Takahashi's (Katamari Damacy series) new game titled Nobi Nobi Boy and Hideo Kojima showing a realtime demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4. We will have more on the event in a short while so stay tuned!

UPDATE: According to reports from gpara.com, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi announced in the event that it will release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in October and will also be featured at the Tokyo Motor Show on the same month.

Keita Takahashi's new game Nobi Nobi Boy did not show any actual gameplay footage but a character animation of a worm-like creature.

Sega's new project Valkyrja of the Battlefield is developed by the team behind Sakura Wars series and uses a special water color like effect called Canvas. Producer Toshiro Nagoshi (Yakuza) has a different project for PS3 but was not shown at the event. However, it will be announced at Sega's private event this coming September.

Koei has announced Dynasty Warrior 6, the latest installment in the series to be released for the PS3 platform. A playable demo will be at the Tokyo Game Show and a release is expected sometime during fall of this year.

And here's what everyone's been waiting for. Hideo Kojima demonstrated the gameplay segment of Metal Gear Solid 4 on actual PS3 hardware for the first time. Kojima showed Snake using his camo suit to disguise himself as a bronze statue, hide in barrels and trash cans. He also showed Snake knocking down enemies rolling the barrel while he is still inside it. After feeling some discomfort, Snake "revives" as he is given a female idol magazine. The producer also revealed that an online multiplayer mode will be in the game and more details will be announced at the 20th Anniversary Party next week.

Lastly, Square-Enix showed new footage for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. This will be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show event and a realtime demonstration will be expected sometime next year.

So that's quite a lot of things they showed at the Sony event. If E3 felt like it was quite lacking, looks like we can all look forward to Tokyo Game Show where we can expect to see most of the titles shown today.

MGS4 multiplayer online

This is why Microsoft or any other none Japanese console company is always in an uphill struggle.

Sony can count on the loyalty of Square Enix and Hideo Kojima almost as much as they can European fanboys paying £425 for a console with 2 average games.

Is a camo suit needed to hide inside a trash can?

and snake knocking down enemies inside a barrel has given me a great image of Donkey Kong versus MGS :D

Kojima >*

I wanna see the footage of the MGS4 to see if it can shhh the people who think the trailer is higher detail than the game will be :D

Any game called Nobi Nobi Boy has got to be great. Looking forward to the next Dynasty Warriors game as well, after a semi-next gen version on the 360 they might finally get round to doing a sparkly new version with all the fangled bits on.
