Playstation's 15th Anniversary (29/09/1995)

I can remember renting one out at blockbusters for a weekend and then going and purchasing one a few weeks later.Sadly enough i kept messing around playing with the T-Rex on the demo disk for the first hour or two lol. Great console, great games, one of the coolest things eva was when i found you could take the ridge racer game disk out and play your own music CD that was awesome (not so much now lol).

I traded in my SNES and about a squillion games, and could just afford the console, no games.

Me and my mate stayed up all night playing the Destruction Derby demo :D

The bought Tekken when my paper round cash topped up my $$. It was :eek: .

So many good memories of the console. I still have one set up and a decent catalogue of games that I still play.

Had one from the start as well - traded my Atari Jaguar :o for it.

I remember driving all the way from Bristol to Leeds & back one Saturday, just to go to an import shop and buy the US version of Resident Evil when it came out!!!

Was a great time for games! :)

I loved the PS1 so much. I remember getting it for my 5th birthday and just never wanting to stop playing it.

If you never had one, you most certainly missed out on one of the best consoles ever.

Edit: oh yeah! The T-Rex and the stingray. Wow, forgot about those.

haha, wierd. The t-rex demo is the main thing i remember from PS1 days :D

That and the first Grand theft auto demo disk that got released, I played that to death! GOURANGA!!!

It is a real shame light gun games are no more, The wii and move, kinect. it's just no where near the same, or as accurate :(

That genre is a real casualty of going LCD

I traded in my N64 for my first Playstation, I think it was back in 2000. Bought it with Colin McRae rally and Silent Hill, and not getting any sleep due to the latter.

I remember buying the first copy of Play and readig about it looking at the launch title games thinking OMFG! I WANT THIS!

I was in heaven on Christmas day in 1995. :D

Silent Hill was a terrifying game. It was great because it relied on psychological cues instead of 'boo!' closets with hidden zombies or dogs in them. I remember turning the ingame music off on my second playthrough because I couldn't bear to go through the school or the hospital with the menacing tunes playing in the background.

You couldn't really get that experience on literally any other console at the time. The Saturn was dead, the N64 was childishly juvenile (that sounds familiar) and had no horror games or capability to play anything more than beeps or boops for its music due to an inferior sound chip.

I echo the lightgun genre dying out sentiments too :(
The arcade port of Time Crisis was amazing and shames today's excuses. It had not just the original arcade game in its entirety, but a whole new story for the PS1 version, a great guncon accessory (still considered to be the best lightgun accessory ever made despite no recoil) and full two player support on both modes. Namco also followed up with the awesome Point Blank games :)

The PS1 was probably the best console to be released (Dreamcast comes a very close second). A phenomenal catalogue of games, and Sony's first system meant it was new IP after new IP unlike its tiring competitors. Everyone was willing to give pretty much any title a chance as well, as there weren't any internet or easily distributed mass media back then.

Nowadays it's all sequels and metacritic scores. It's always been a machine fuelled by profit margins and expectant figures for shareholders; but back then it was well hidden from view.

this. I loved my old playstation and watching that youtube vid (100 games) broguht back some memories, need to get hold of a copy of breath of fire 3, i got so far the first time through but my memeory card corrupted and all the data was lost, so gutted i never played that game again.

I was in a game shop not so long ago. Someone asked if they had any old light guns. The bloke behind the counter said that they don't work with LCD/Plasma screens and that some regulation stopped them selling something that resembled a gun

Point blank and Time Crisis were epic games, I still have a go at TC whenever possible if i end up in a games room.

Gran Turismo 1, Metal Gear Solid 1, Resident Evil etc were epic games.

I absolutely loved Crash Bandicoot back then aswell! :D
Had a lot of fun with Crash Team Racing too.

More the pity, a couple of my favourite games on the ps... the original time crisis and point blank. One of those reasons it's allways worth hanging on to a decent crt.

Shame they never did a decent mechanised guncon, iv'e got the 'real arcade' arcade replica gun. Despite the recoil being ace, the accuracy isn't spot on unfortunatley.

Sad these days that they don't remember what made gun games totally fun to play... played timecrisis 4, so much going on it's just not fun.

Happy 15th to the ps though, never will one do so much so right. From the off with the hype and that fresh looking white machine in all the magazines, on to the marketing and adverts that screamed wow with destruction derby/wipeout, through those two games being shown on every demo/display (teken/ridge) being near perfect conversions.

From then in the machine was like a jackpot that never stoped paying out.... top originals with the likes of res evil, EA droped quality with their sports titles, Psygnosis came up trumps with F1.. and the DEMO 1 disk sold on everybody.

Great days, ill never be sold like that again... i bought hundreds of ps1 games costing me thousands... no regrets, such great times:)

It's crazy to think that there was once an argument over whether CDs were as good as cartridges. As great as not having loading times was, optical drives liberated console development.

I loved Point Blank on the PS1. Epic game. :D
I once played Point Blank so much I got actual tunnel vision. \o/

EDIT: I know it's not possible to do using the old system, but I can't believe there's no way of doing light gun games in the LCD era of TVs. At the very least, surely just a wiimote-style set of lights at each corner of the screen would work?

EDIT 2: Yeah, GunCon 3 does just that. If there aren't any light gun games coming out, it's not the hardware's fault.

lol that guy is pretty bad at point blank!

I used to love that game and time crisis. I remember spending days on time crisis beating all the section times that were on the game. Got them all in the end, Used to pretty much know where and when each guy would pop out the entire game lol.

I want light gun games back :(, Hoping move can replicate it ok.
