PLEASE ADVISE - COMPUTER SUFFERING A GRADUAL DEATH

Hoping for some help here as I need this machine working. I run the business with it (as well as gaming and stuff).

It's an ex58 triple channel build.

Last night it shut itself down randomly 3 times, but would run fine when rebooted.

Tonight after work tried to boot and it would power up for about a second or two (all mobo lights on etc), and then shut down - wasn't posting. Mobo lights showed c1 error (which apparently is no ram detected).

I stripped everything off the mobo except cpu and ram and it still wouldn't post. Tried various sticks of ram in various slots and still no joy.

Changed the mobo battery still not posting.

Read something on a forum saying to furiously switch psu off and on again while hitting the power button fast too. Sounded a crazy idea to me but I tried it and lo and behold the system posted. Built it back up and i'm writing this post on it now, but I was away from it for 20 minutes and when I came back it had shut down again.

So looks like something is broken and the systems days, as it stands now, are numbered.

My best guess is it's the ram, but could be the mobo? I really don't know and I'm hoping someone can advise. I'm about ready to go to ocuk and just order new mobo, ram and cpu, but if i can get away with just new ram that would be better.

Any ideas. I would really really appreciate any of your thoughts.

I would be looking at the power supply myself.

Computer just shut down again. Instant off. I'm thinking you must be right. PSU is brand new as well. Got it from ocuk about 3 weeks ago as my old psu blew. New one is a Corsair AX860i Digital ATX.

Will ocuk send me a new one before I've sent the old one back? Don't want to take it out the computer until I have the new one.

If I had a mobo or ram fault could that cause these random shutdowns? I don't think so but I could well be wrong.

Just took out the corsair and installed an old akasa 650w psu I had in the attic, and computer booted and I'm posting from it now. We'll see if it shuts down again but I suspect not.

My faith in corsair psu's has been seriously shaken. That's 2 in a row!! First one died completely, and the 2nd was shutting the machine down.

Glad you found out what was wrong.

RMA it!

I can see why you'd be sceptical about buying another one. I'd exchange for XFX or Seasonic if you can. I know some Corsair's are Seasonic, but hey, you wouldn't want it a 3rd time would you.

I will speak to ocuk about that. I'm seriously ****ed off with power supplys. I think I've had about 5 fail on me now. Why can't they be reliable.

Anyway, I want to sincerely thank everyone who replied to me. Before I posted here I was thinking ram or mobo and was close to replacing them. Once I read your replies I realised it was more than likely the psu, and since the system is still running it seems it actually was. A thousand thankyous :D

System still running - no shutdowns. Thank you corsair for your flaky psu's. I will be sending you an invoice for my wasted time trying to diagnose the problems your equipment has caused me. I have spent many hours on this and the amount you are owe me is very large indeed. My payment terms are strictly 30 days!

I had two corsair psu's fail on me, both within 4 months of being new. Doubtless there are thousands of happy corsair psu's chuggin away out there but I won't be touching them again!

I've had loads of makes fail on me. I have all my computer stuff plugged into surge protectors. Are they not good enough - do I need a ups. Can't imagine the psu is getting power surges coming through my surge protectors?????

Anyone noticing a trend with the newer Corsair PSU's, a lot of them are dying. It's quite common now TBH, I'm in the market for a new PSU down the line and if this trend continues I think I will be avoiding them.

In my haste I told ocuk i wanted a like for like replacement, as I was hoping to not have to recable the system, but then it stopped working entirely so I wired up my ancient psu so I have to recable it anyway.

So, need to phone them in the morning to rearrange rma arrangements. Wish I'd waited........

It's OK, should still give you the option. The Seasonic is similar to an AX850, so top PSU. The Enermax is good too.

Can I just add my disappointment in Corsair too. I got two years from a £120 psu. it didn't fail completely, its just kept shutting my computer off randomly.

OCZ all the way from now on.
