A friend of mine bought the following approx 1 year ago:

ASUS P5ND2 SLI nForce4 SKT775 motherboard
Intel P4 650 3.4GHz 800FSB processor

hes using the stock cooler and i almost laughed out loud when i went to his office the other day it was so...so....so very noisy. Like a badly designed hoover.

Can anyone make any suggestions as to simple, cheapish cooler upgrade to turn it to a sane level of noise. Its in a mini tower case. Room around the processor from the quick glance I saw inside (i didnt tarry long as my ears were bleeding)

Cheers,
Dam.

An Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro with the fan on low speed should do the trick. There seems to have been a price drop on them so they are now only about £11, although ocuk haven't got round to lowering their prices yet.

Alternatively if the stock cooler uses an 80mm fan you could just replace it with a zalman 80mm fan, although you may need to get some self tapping screws. Unfortunately these heatsinks are more often 70x70mm, if it is you won't be able to do that.
