Hi

Can someone run their eye over the below please? This for a machine for general windows usage and mid level gaming as close to £400 asap. Don't need windows as we have an unused copy knocking about somewhere. Hoping to clock it up to 3ghz or so and have a alright machine for the next couple of years. The graphics cooler is a bit of a luxury, but I've heard the fans on these own brand ones are a bit carp and I'm a bit of a noise freak.

Cheers

I'd opt for the E2160 because of the higher multiplier and the fact that it only costs a few pounds more. You also need some thermal paste for the CPU heatsink if you don't already have some spare.

I'd probably drop the graphics card cooler and try the stock one to begin with unless you already know for sure it won't be any good.

your grfx and the cooler is £95 - for the extra tenner, I'd reccomend the X1950 pro turbo. It has a faster clock speed, and the cooler it comes with is actually silent :)

and yeah, in most cases the x1950 pro kicks the 8600 into the mud.
The E2160 is meant to reach >3ghz much easier, due to it's higher multi. There's a ~16 page thread in the cpu section I'd read up on :)

You'll get 3ghz with e2140 and that evga board easy my brother has almost identical spec and he could boot straight in at 3 ghz on stock cooler fine just needed a tweak on cpu voltage to 1.375v
