please can somone help me install vista

just trying an upgrade install with 1 stick of mem now.

also had this on the upgrade adviser

yeah was what i thought and anyway when i do the clean install there are no drivers there to start with. I will let you know how this attemp goes in 5 mins or so. i have the 'installing windows....' screen :o
 
so what does that mean :D - duff memory, bios setting? i just yanked one stick out, can't just accept that was the duff one :)
 
No. You need to run memtest on BOTH sticks INDIVIDUALLY to find out if one is broken. If they both pass numerous passes then it's the timings within the BIOS; the Voltage on the DIMMs or the Voltage on the mem controller. Two sticks = more juice needed.
 
and sometimes you'll get a stick that passes all tests you throw at it, but causes instability in real life use

had a 256mb 2700 stick in my brother's machine doing this, drove me up the wall before i diagnosed it

xp would install fine, then sometimes just randomly reboot. would be stable for days sometimes, then collapse

been fine for over a year without it
 
it might just fall over after a while.. (or corrupt your install)

remember which stick you used :)
 
How many slots does the Mobo have & are you sure you used the right ones & obviously try the others if you have them. Ignore what the manual says as they don't translate well.
 
only have two slots, xp was working well, and vista seemed ok installing SP1 with both slots. 40% of the test so far, no errors (using mem test 3.3)

ok so xp installs on both single memory slots and memory chips. - but not with them both plugged in. memtest passed on each stick of memory and both together. - hmmmmmm confusded!
