Hi, I would like to upgrade my PC, currently:

Q6600
2GB 800MHz
Gigabyte DS3R
8800GT
Corsair 520W
Lian LI PC7+

I am thinking of keeping my PSU and case if suitable. I am thinking of i5, 8GB and a compatible motherboard.

I will also add a graphics card later, but that shouldn't be a problem once I upgrade the rest.

Please can you give me some suggestions.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
1 x Thermalright HR-02 Macho CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA1366) £29.18
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £25.99
Total : £314.56 (includes shipping : £9.50).

DIY it ;) They wont send the mobo bundle with the heatsink attached so even the bundle requires some assembly. Overclocking is dead easy to do, simply up the ratio (multiplier) in the BIOS. We can talk you through it once you have the rig running. The i5K is on offer, I would grab it double quick before the price goes back up to £180ish next week. The deal helps pay for the heatsink ;)

Hi guys, I am not really sure how to overclock, I tried with Q6600 but have no idea.

Honosuseri, this looks good, I might just leave the heatink. Can you suggest a graphics card as well please. Around 150 if possible.

Also my case and PSU are compatible?

PSU is good for a single GPU setup. Case takes ATX sized mobos so no problem there.

£150 on a GPU I'd look at THIS. A little over but you get free games to help sweeten the deal.

Overclocking the CPU is done in the BIOS. Change the multiplier to 40 and you have the CPU running at 4Ghz (100x40=4000Mhz/4Ghz). That will push the limit of the stock heatsink though. Overclocking of the GPU would be worth doing as the 7850s overclock very well, over 1000mhz from the stock 860Mhz can be expected

Hi Honosusersi and everybody else,

My PC has died( I believe it's the graphics card), I am going a head and order the items hono suggested, I am gonna add a 660.

Just final check that everything is compatible:
i5 3570k
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB

and cheapest 660 I can find.

I will be using my HDD, Corsair 520w and Lian Li PC7+.

Cand somebody just confirm everything please.

Cheers

Prices have recently gone back up. For £480 including shipping try something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
1 x MSI HD 7850 Twin Frozr III OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Cards w/ FARCRY3, Nexuiz & Sleeping Dogs PC Games £169.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x Avexir MPower Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (AVD3U16000904G-2CM) £29.99
Total : £486.36 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Would reccomend you find the fault of the death of the PC first. Sounds more like a PSU issues if it just died.

Hi Bacon thanks a lot, It's GPU issue since I get weird graphical issues on the scree(u know the ones you get when your GPU heats up). Also, I just put an old 6600 and it works fine.

So the GPU you suggested is better than 660? Also, are the cheaper i5's any good? And one more question do you think it will be a good idea to get a more expensive motherboard that is possibly more future proof i.e. will allow me to upgrade in few years time without having to replace it?

Cheers

The 660 is better at stock and because this version of the 7850 is voltage locked it is most likely the better card at the end of the day. But then you could always grab the slightly more expensive MSI which isnt voltage locked and allows full overclocking which would be my choice for bang for buck.

I woudn't really get a cheaper I5 as they arent overclockable. Motherboard wise new CPU's will use different sockets so any current motherboard wont use next gen Intel CPU's.

Would I not be able to save some money by getting a cheaper mobo, as long at it is compatible ?

I am not planning to OC so do you think I should get a cheaper i5?

I have decided to get the 660, always been nvidia fan.

Cheers
